What? No "/Players X Fast Level" Guide?

Getting bored again w/ my bnet 80 lvl Meteorb so I figured why not do a SP Meteorb since I'd have the wonders of Players8 and Static Maps

Anyhoo... I'm surprised (or maybe I'm just teh noob this morning) but I can't find any "Fastest way to Level in SP Players X" Guide.

I guess it's pretty much a no brainer but any tips?

Last night I played for maybe 2 hours and I had my sorc up to level 16 doing Players8 Tristram runs. After lvl 16, the exp was going sloooooow so I decided to kick back down to Players1 and will continue tonight by just finishing up Andy so I can go to Act2.

Guess then I keep on the Players1 strategy until I get to Norm Baal runs, then kick up the players to 4, then 6, etc? Then go to NM say ~level 50 and then breeze thru NM @ Players1 until I can do NM Baal Runs. Then repeat the Players4/6/8 until level 70 or so before going to Hell?

    Thanks,
    Mike

The fastest way is to.. ~drums~ play it.

Just put it on /p8 and play trough the game, you don't have to rerun area's. Actually someone said once that all you have to do to level (good enough) is whack every unique monster you see, don't even bother about the rest. Now that is pretty hard but it gives you a clue. Run around and kill everything. Besides, level 16 really isn't that high for tristram :D my last two characters were level 21 when leaving Act 1.

I usually do the same thing(switching to players 1 after level 15 or 16) until after I beat Act 1, then I turn /players 8 back on after I get to Act 2. The experience starts back up again then.

I was wondering the same thing at one point. Yes, doing /players 8 will level you faster, and cause you to slow down later. However, in the weaponless tournament (which required full clears), I did everything up to part of NM Act 5 on /players 8, and was Clvl 69 at the time. Yes, my levelling slowed down at a point, and I might have done better to lower it earlier, but since repeating areas was not allowed, I felt more comfortable doing this. And it put me at a decent level. At the rate I was going, I probably would have been 71 or 72 when I got to NM Baal.

In short, if you don't want to rerun areas, then /players 8 full clears will get you to a very nice level.

Usually though, I try to keep the /players setting as high as I can survive/not get bored with endless beating on a single monster.

    Sint Nikolaas,

Oh, forgot to mention that I don't have anything to twink this char. The Stoney WP just happened to be like 1 screen away from the Trist Portal so I was doing the Trist Runs for Items.

Even with basically no MF I already have quite a few yellows and a couple set items :D Woot. It really is sad how happy I am over that fact!!! I guess I'm just a level/char build addict.

Running throught the game on /players 8 is fast... fast enough for most. It's probably not fastest though. Using /players 1 to get through acts that slow your progress (magot lair for a summoner...) definately speeds things up. Dropping down to /players 4 for the act bosses can speed things along without losing the 0% no drop.

If your only goal is to level up, you should really ignore most of the side stuff.

That being said... why would you want to play this game in this way? The fun is in the play of the game... not the reward at the end.

Welcome back to the joys of doing the game like it was ment to be played.

Yes the fastest way to level up is just play the game at the highest /players x that doesn't effect your kill speed greatly. I usually run all of normal on players 8 (except the ancients and duriel). Most people I know reach level 19-21 before finishing act 1 normal.

Cause I've played thru the quests hundreds of times. They aren't fun anymore, now I'm focused on the char, not the plot.

    I'm doing this build for
    A) Easier Item runs (static maps) / Better drops (players8)
    B) Faster to create new games on SP than on Bnet where you have to create new name/password protect it, then connect, then deal with lag/realm down, etc... Plus heck of a lot easier muling with ATMA instead of having to create a game and wait around 5 min so it will remain when I bring in my mule.

I'm still a noob to all the very uber uber items. I'm missing one item from a full Tal Rash set, and I got a Griswald plate w/ 3 PTopazes, I'm totally estatic about my stash on Bnet, but that tells ya something about where I'm at with my item levels. I figure I could really focus on pit/meph/baal runs on SP. The simple fact of Players8 makes this so very appealing, static maps don't hurt (god bless teleport).

    Also,

The highest I've EVER gotten on SP or Bnet is the very beggining of Hell Act 3. Even on Bnet I usually always solo, except for a couple times I got in on Baal runs. I figure going the route I'm going in SP, I could FINALLY accomplish my goal of beating Baal in Hell :D

I think it's faster to run through the game on players 1, and then when you've finished each difficulty, go back and do some Baal runs on players "whatever you can handle". That said just playing the game through on players 1 gives at least a very decent lvl 80 character..

Playing at a higher player setting is faster than not, paradoxically (at least until you get to Hell).
The speed you can push through the game is very much related to your level relative to the monsters around you. If you are higher you will kill them quickly, but when you are lower it is much harder. So the trick is to stay just ahead of the monster levels. 5 is about ideal, the most ahead you can be without copping an artifical penalty.

And playing through each area killing just the monsters in your way and the occasional superunique, at p8, will keep you nicely at about +5 to the monsters around you. At p1 you fall back, even if you do full clears. This is one of the main reasons 1.07 SP is hard. No players setting, so you're always low level unless you do many levelling runs.

That said, I'd advise Gabber to play the game properly just one more time, just to kick start your stash. Once you can twink, your other chars will fly through, but nothing is free, and playing your first char through the intended way is the cost here. I'd recommend some normal Andy runs for gear (not exp) - because of the bug she drops at least rare always and quite a few sets, even with not much MF. Runs don't take too long when you know the map in advance.

As far as exp goes, I suggest knowing the levels of the monsters around you (there are online sources for that), and trying to stay around +5 to them. If you fall behind, clear more thoroughly; if you get ahead, run through faster.

    From the D2 Strat Compedium

The values are from an internal table in the games DLLs. For character levels less than 25 it uses the following:

    mlvl-clvl exp %
    10 5
    10 5
    9 15
    8 36
    7 68
    6 **
    1 to 5 100
    -5 to 0 100
    -6 81
    -7 62
    -8 43
    -9 24
    -10 5
    -10 5

For levels of 25 and above the following will be used:

If (mlvl-clvl>0) then experience is adjusted by clvl/mlvl else use the values from the above table (clvl of 0 to <-10).

At clvl 76 to 80 divide experience by 2.
At clvl 81 to 85 divide experience by 3.
At clvl 86 to 90 divide experience by 4.
At clvl 91+ divide experience by 5.

I expect that in the v1.10 patch that this last part with dividing the experience will start at a lower level and be more severe than it currently is.

I think people are forgetting that he said he's playing a Meteorb. You can do this at P8 and still cruise through everything up to Hell. I spam a few Orbs and everything dies. I can't wait to get to the Maggot Lair so I can bomb Meteors on that giant slug. :)

Considering you have experience with a metorb (on bnet) i'll assume your pretty good with her. So you shouldnt have much problems with players 8 at least up to hell. Just remember:
your untwinked, so you probably wont be as safe as you were before.
theres no backup hammerdin or fishy to help you. TP to avoid danger, dont just sit in 1 place and wait for stuff to die fast.
Metorbs can kill hell bosses on P8, but for your first meph/diablo/baal run, be sae and lower it, just to make sure your ok. then go back and kill them on P8 another 100 times and feel satisfied :teeth:

I'm not forgetting...I'm in the process of playing my own one right now...but untwinked she can't just mow down monsters on players 8....I think that the damage is very good but lack of mana is a huge pain in the butt for me and I only play on players 1 where 1orb=dead monsters...I also like to get to the juiciest areas (drop and experience wise) as fast as possible to maximise my gains...If you're capable of cutting through monsters on players 8 then go ahead:)

Oh and yeah DMPI_Masher, I know of those stats, but they really don't take into account Players8 do they?

The equations and stuff are exactly the same, you just get 4.5 times as much exp in P8 as you would in the exact same situation on P1.

Everyone calls it cheesy but then I doubt you care all that hard when it comes to getting items. Why you should run the false tombs & other side areas: the player setting on a treasure chest drop is determined based on what it is when you open the chest, not what it is when you spawn it.
Also when you enter Lower Kurast you want to set it to p8 if at all possible, you may not get a bunch of set/unique or end game goodies but you can usually find decent gear to boost you through normal.
