How do you choose your character names? I've heard some people name their characters names that sound more like names they use to sign in on various accounts. I don't operate that way. Instead I pick most names online off of websites with names and I match them to specific builds that I think fit perfectly. Other names I get from other forms of media and even some I make up.

    Here are some of mine:

Percival: Named after a knight of Arthur's legendary round table. This is the name I gave to my physical zealot.
Galeshin: Another knight of the round table, he is my frost zealot.
Gargamel: Archenemy to the smurfs, he is planned to be my poisonmancer due to being some kind of alchemist. Now I just need an act 2 hireling named Azrael which is the name of his cat!
Chunli: The female fighter from the Street Fighter series, since her signature move, the lightning kick is a rapidly fast series of kicks, she is perfect for my dragon talon kicker.
Cacofonix: The bard from the Asterix comics notorious for his bad singing voice. I figure this is perfect for my singer barbarian!
Okyale: Famed amazon archer of legend. This is my physical bowazon.
Conan: Famous fictional barbarian, planned to be my sword and shield concentrator.

I used to do that... at this point though, I only 'name' play-through chars. I have a slew of ATsorcMavs/ATsorcMaxdam/CowzonFCR, etc named chars in my select screen, just because it's easier to remember at a glance which is which for what runs...

Of course, I'm SP, so that probably helps me indulge in such laziness

I am trying to give them names of gods and heroes mostly from the greek mythology that match the character build.
    Few examples:

    Athena: Amazon spear
    Achilles: Zealot Paladin
    Zeus: Paladin Foher
    Thor: Paladin Hammerdin
    Hades: Bone Necro

Wouldn't those names be more suited for Titan Quest?

I'm using names from fiction and legends, see the previous postign for a list of examples, although I'm avoiding all to pretentious or iconic ones. Some have cartoonish names, like Zackwumm, my conc barb (translates to something like thud-boom) or Zapzarapzapzap, the lightning sorc, others have it from an awesome piece of gear, like UncleZod, my WW barb who's wearing an eth BotD GPA made of self-found stuff (single player). I'm avoiding making up names myself, they often appear silly to me after a while.

All over the place for me, never quite know where I get it from though very often derived from the Cadfael novels, current sorceress is called Melangell. In Diablo II - I think I have an assassin called Morag, an amazon called Pentheselea, a druid called Oisin, a useless necromancer called Reaper and a pile of sorceress with oddball names like Vorzheva, Zendara, Erin and Miranda. The latter I at least know - one of Neptunes (or Uranus, can never remember) moons, to twin with my friends' sorceress called Kapella (he names all his characters after stars!)

I speak on behalf of someone else but he would sometimes name them Bob. All of them. All builds. Since plain ol' Bob was taken a lot of the time, he would go with Bob *Random Numbers here*; ex: Bob1234, Bob726, etc.

    Cracklebuns is my questing FireSorc.

WitherBow was a bowazon who died in a tourney (With Her Bow, geggit?)

WithaStick was a Necro who died (not such a lucky naming convention, but I shall persevere with it)

    Halitosis, my EBotD whirly barb

FourWinds, my Lord of Mages summoner

    ClubberLang, my IK full-set barb

CraftyClara, my "crafts only" kick/trap assassin

    GoBearsGo, my summoner Druid

    Firicia, my blizzballer

    etc

    You get the drift.

Typically whatever strikes my mind first that somewhat resembles the build I want. I named my Poison necro Pestilence, my Lightning zon Furyosa, my druid Iseldir, my summoner Afterlife. I started a hammerdin named Boromir, but he died to Pindle...so that one wasn't a smart choice.

I play single player, so names are always available.

I tend to use names from The Lord of the Rings novels.

Usually I find names appropriate for my characters from The Silmarillion (Appendicies section).

The Silmarillion isn't a source for exact character names for me, but an excellent inspiration!

I'm all over the place with my character names. Some are too embarrassing for me to admit to, but several I'm rather proud of. For instance, my highest-level character is a fire Sorceress, who I built knowing I wanted her to be into Fire skills, so I named her "NotYourHotMom". My previous high-level Sorceress was founded on Lightning, so I just called her "Storm" (specifically in honor of the X-Men character). I also have an amazon called "Orange_Lantern", since the Amazon is boring to me, so I tried to make her more interesting by playing her as a Greed-monster; I later decided I absolutely wanted a Great Axe gemmed with Rubies, on a character who I decided to make an Amazon, just so I could name her "Flaming_Battleaxe". I have druid shapeshifters named "Excellent_Form", "EvolveOrDie", and so forth; my first werebear was "Carrock" after Lord of the Rings, and I recently made another one called "SonOfCarrock", a la the Son of Tarzan movie/s. And my elementalist, who is meant to eventually go into Armageddon, is named "Prince_Apocalypse" (after the D&D module "Princes of the Apocalypse", which is all about the Princes of Elemental Evil). I also had a series of color-themed characters who collected one particular type of gem, so they had names like "LadyInRed" (extremely obvious name for the Ruby-keeper) and "AfterLaborDay" (obscure reference to the color white for the one with Diamonds). And of course, there's my Paladin who has a Broad Sword on tab 1 and a Long Sword on tab 2, just so I could call him "LengthAndGirth". Heheh.
