To do keyruns and especially Nihlathak you need: fcr, fhr, damage reduced by x and nature's peace or the lawbringer runeword.

    • Head: Lore runeword or rare circlet. Tarnhelm works, too.
    • Amulet: Anything with +skills you can get.
    • Body: Vipermagi is just fine. Smoke is great, too.
    • Weapon/Shield: If that spirit is a monarch, get a spirit weapon, too. Spirit > occulus.
    • Belt: Goldwrap.
    • Gloves: Chances are quite cheap. Magefists if you need the fcr.
    • Rings: fcr rings to reach the next break point. Mf blue rings until you get nagels.

Is that bonehew working for your merc? You should consider the insight runeword, too, for faster runs.

Blizzard is the way to go in my opinion, it's pretty safe as a fire-and-forget spell and with cold mastery the damage is great. However you will encounter cold immune creatures, mainly countess (always fire & cold immune), pindleskin and sometimes (or a lot of them, to the point of annoyance) Nihlathak. Your merc should be able to deal with them though.

With lightning you will encounter a lot less immunities, but the damage is a lot weaker at mid levels.

+1 skills and damage reduced by 7, for a pretty low price.

Blizzard requires too hefty of a cost investment, unless you're only running Mephisto. You'll be limited to farming little else due to immunities.

I'd argue that Frozen Orb / Chain Lightning is the best overall farming build at low to mid gear levels, and Frozen Orb / Meteor works well for most stuff too. Frozen Orb is a very potent spell at only the cost of 40 skill points, and is easy to use, which is a bonus when you're doing a lot of dodging due to shoddy gear. Meteor is also quite potent at only 40 points; even though it benefits a lot from its synergies, it's still powerful without them. Chain Lightning at only a 40 point investment will be mediocre, but it gets the job done, so long as you're playing by yourself. Cold and Light immunity is one of the rarer combinations.

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

So I tried blizz build with my gear on single player but not before i tried a pure Lightning build and a Tri specc(Doh with low +skills :b). Conclusion: I must be doing something wrong or lightning just flat out sucks. Lightning got to job done at nith, countess, summoner and andy. But when it comes to meph with a little more Health, It took looong time and were not possible without the moat trick. Then i tryed Blizz, omg.. Meph went down in less then 5 seks, Nith: hah, countess was hard sence immunity and summoner simple.
So, sence i do not expect to do any mf in the pits any time soon. My choice is betwen Meph or countess Blizz/Lightning, Blizz beats it any day =)
Btw if I made a orb/cl my dmg output with cl would be maybe 1-2 k, thanks for ur response tho, sorry Im just not a fan of lightning or hybrid sorcs, not middle class gear that is. Prove me wrong please.

Question: 1: all vita or max block (that is if i find a shield with good block, sigon?)
    2: ES?
3:I die very easy even with blizz build, more ress and DR but sacrifice +skills?

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

Absolutely. The blizz haters are some of the most self deceiving people ive ever seen. About meph - the 75 all res he has makes conviction or cold mastery a necessary for fast elemental kills.

To no tdie - it is stormshield max block, merc holy freeze and reapers. With this setup, you can even EASILY do countess with a blizz sorc - just tele on top of the countess and merc will kill him, and it is safe too -- with the slowing and block
blizz - meph, andy, pindle, ancient tunnels - all very easy to do. Or with a decent merc you can add countess, shenk, eldritch (nihl a bit hard though). And with blizz - everything actually dies almost instantly so you dont need to dodge stuff unlike hybrids. Make no mistake, blizz is the strongest anti-group skill the sorceress has, from poor-mans to highest end, nothing comes close to it(though light is good at high lvls and less immune probs)

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

I'd say vita is best. Not that there's anything wrong with blocking, far from that. But with vita you get spirit monarch, which is extremely cheap for the abilities it provides: +2 skills, 55 fhr (!), huge resistances, +life, +mana, magic absorb... the list is endless. You won't believe how much better teleporting is with a ~+100 bonus to it, especially when you don't have insight.

I'm currently using a blizzard/firewall combination, explained here. I rarely die, especially when I'm blink-teleporting, except when I'm running Nihlathak (if you teleport in a pack of tomb vipers, you're hosed, except if you have really honed save & exit skills - I don't) and Mephisto dolls are sometimes a problem, but they are easily dodged with high fhr (I currently have 142 - double spirit, smoke and a 12% fhr grand charm) and rejuvenation potions on your belt. Also my damage is a little better now, since I've gained some levels and got another blizzard synergy up, along with 27 total cold mastery.

As far as tri-elemental builds go, I've made this build in the past. The damage is not great, but you can kill everything. I'm assuming full Tal Set, spirit monarch, torch and no skillers (which should probably pump lightning). Tal set will up cold damage by 15% if I remember correctly.

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

i would still go for an ORB/Fireball setup going something like this:

    Ice
    15 Ice Bolt
    01 Frozen Armor
    01 Shiver Armor
    01 Ice Blast
    01 Frost Nova
    01 Glacial Spike
    01 Blizzard
    20 Frozen Orb
    12 Cold Mastery

    Light
    01 Static Field
    01 Telekinesis
    05 Teleport

    Fire
    20 Fire Bolt
    20 Fire Ball
    01 Warmth
    01 Fire Mastery
    --------
102 Skill Points, done at level 91

direct link to the build is here

Put your remaining points in either fire mastery and or ice bolt for max damage on your frozen orb (but trust me orb damage is more then sufficient with this setup alone!). I played this setup with 2x spirit in the beginning with a crafted +2 sorc amu and lore, (the rest was crappie) until i gathered a full talrasha set! Trust me with your gear this can kill anything and you are pretty safe!

The guide suggests pumping firebolt i however choose to invest a few more points and took meteorb as a backup for my fireball this makes the moat trick even shinier! (some sort of meteorb it becomes i guess!)

THis setup also means you can run pretty much any area in the game (including pits and baal!) however watchout for dual immune lister (he is cold/fire very often!) and watch out for those higher areas until you got your full tals set! :)

    I hope this helps!

    Regards,
    BKC

Ok Thanks vita it is, 55% is a perfect one tho? Expensive, mine is 34 :) still good thoo. But i cant get why wep is better then occu, Occu have 3+ all skills, some res, fcr and also 50% mf! :) What is ur dmg with blizz/firewall? would you say Smoke>Viper?

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

55 is fast hit recovery and is always that, it's fixed.
    faster caster rate is 25-35%.

It's a matter of preference really, but spirit has fat vitality and mana boni, magic absorb and +2 skills, which ain't that bad compared to 1 less than occu.

I don't think smoke > viper, if i had viper, i'd probably use it over smoke.

I've currently got (soon to change due to tal set acquisition) ~3000 blizzard and ~3700 firewall.

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

Works fine for me, as a back-up skill. It takes some time to get used to it, but you'll have no problem with a holy freeze merc, especially if he tanks creatures and you just firewall them (e.g. countess's minions, nihlathak's minions).

I use it from time to time, when i'm feeling lucky at Nihlathak. Lucky = when the adds around him are not that many. You just lure his minions away from him and kill them with firewall. Then quickly teleport (so that you don't get corpse explosion on your face - at least my merc always kills a minion) somewhere near him, so that everyone turns their attention to your merc. Then walk (so that you don't take your merc with you) to a corner without usable corpses. Right click on nihlathak and keep casting firewall on his face. If he teleports away, keep holding that right click, that's called namelock iirc, you will continue casting firewall on him, unless there's some obstacle between you. Continue till he's dead.

This takes me ~2.5 times more than the average run that Nihlathak spawns without the cold immunity. However it's a good practice from time to time to avoid temp bans.

Re: What MF Build will work for me?

With half decent gear Meteorb is the best all around MFer IMO. Specially with Tals. Mine did Countess, Andy, Meph, Pindle and the Pits. Nihlatak requires specific gear to be safe. Summoner is doable with pretty much anything. If you're doing just Meph and Andy Blizzard is faster and can work with worse equipment. In this case do Ancient Tunnels instead of Pits (the entrace to the Pits is easier to find though).
