In no paticular order i would say.

Armor : Fortitude

Boots: #1 Goreriders

Gloves: Bloodfists & maybe some good Crafted blood gloves with + life and cb and all that jazz.

Weapon : Griz Caddy : Grief Phase Blade : Ethereal Breath Of The Dying Berzerk Axe

Shield : only choice is Stormshield.

If I'm not mistaken, even Fortitude armor has +300% Enhanced Damage.

For budget PvM mauler, you can get away with a few two-handers. IK Maul double shael'd or Buriza works, I'm sure.

Check out the Town Dump Bear guide. Pretty inexpensive build.

Not to mention, quite effective.

But CoH has:

+2 To All Skills
+200% Damage To Demons
+100% Damage To Undead

So the 300 on Forti isn't always that big a difference, and the +2 skills + res on CoH is imo. very handy to have in certain situations (i.e. Uber Tristram).

For a mauler the extra skill points don't have that much value; doesn't add as much damage as Fort does.

But CoH is a very good 2nd choice; I'm using it for pretty much all my shapeshifting builds.

Oops, my bad. Still, the resists on it is great. Yeah, I use it on my uber-Tristram fury wolf as well. Always handy to have one laying around. :)

fort has damage, def, and res. something a mauler badly needs. the 300 ed IS a big difference. coh is a horrible idea.

I typed stormshield into yahoo and I found a n exile vortex shield, same thing? better? I couldnt read stats. I've never seen or come across the storm shield so..... any input would be helpful.

Also wouldn't duress rawk becaus of the added cold dam CB, FHR, and open wounds????

it seems that the fortitudes 300% enhance dam is great but is bad against Iron maiden and physical imune. Am I seing this wrong?

you are seeing it wrong. any melee char is going to have problems against iron maiden. Not equiping fortitude isnt going to solve that.

duress is a nice cheap option, but it doesnt beat fortitude. maulers have low damage, that 300ed is huge.

Coyote doesn't have that problem, Jayson.

But yeah, even without Fort, most Melee attackers will die in one hit.
