If it's hardcore put 1 pt bone armor and max bone wall after you max you're skellies/mastery. Hopefully you can grab some marrowalks and slide those on for the lvl 33 synergy for bone armor (as long as you don't put a point into bone prison of course ;) )

Definitely the skelemancer/overlord. This build gives you plenty of undead bouncers to keep you cozy, plus the stat point allotment is EXTREMELY flexible... though there is the normal focus on Energy and Vitality trend.

Skelliemancer with a HF Merc is the safest build out there.

I agree except about the energy vitality thing. Even in softcore my skellimancer has base energy and that is untwinked. Once the army is summoned your mana demands are quite low.

not with a high level CE, or with some rude monster that makes you curse him like 10 times while cursing him....(anyone get it?)

put some into nrg for pvm...like 50-70

Note that I said it's a trend, not the definitive.

With proper equipment CE is easy with base mana. Alot of the gear isn't that hard to acquire, and it'd be what you're using anyways.

I.E. Arm of King leoric I don't think trades too high. I got mine on ladder pretty cheap. Wizspikes aren't extremely expensive either. You could probably get away with using magic items such as any +nec skills +energy/mana wands..ect. ect. as a CE-er with base energy. Of course shako helps as well if you have one/can get one.

    Bonemancers are okay too

Everyone is saying Skelemancer, which is fine, definitely a good build, but I say you can also do a Bonemancer and still have plenty of protection. Plus, Bonemancers will be much better in Nightmare and Hell because of the super damage they can do with Spear and Spirit and all the synergies.

Starting out with MY Bonemancers, I always put a point in the summoning skills, like skele, skele mastery, clay golem, golem mastery, and mages. This will provide with at least one skeleton, a clay golem, and a merc by the time you beat Blood Raven. Most likely you can have 2 or more skeles with +skill wands you can find or buy. This is plenty of cover for you and can kill monsters well using amp. (also, a point in bone armor works wonders).

Now all you have to do is level up to 18 and start pumping spear. Later on in the game, as you accumulate more + to all skills items, those single points in the summoning tree will get higher and higher, giving you much stronger minions. Maybe you lose a couple points that could have gone into your bone synergies later on, but they help you out tremendously.
