what is the best distribution of points in frozen orb

I've got a sorceress build that I'll likely never complete that uses 84 skill points leaving me with 26 free...(should I ever make it to level 99)

I was thinking of using frozen orb but I was wondering what the ideal mix of orb + cold mastery would be assuming the 5 prereqs for Orb

    is it
    20 orb + 1 Mastery
    1 orb + 20 mastery <--- I know it isn't that
    10/11
    11/10
    16 orb + 5 mastery

I'll probably only have in the neighborhood of +5 or 6 to all skills

so how can I best allocate the points for PVM?

What is the rest of the build, and what is the amount of +skills (either general or to cold) you'll be likely to incorporate in it ?

The rest of the build is a variation of an enchantress

    1 point in telekinesis
    1 point in teleport
    20 in Lightning mastery
    1 point in Fire bolt
    1 point in fire ball
    20 in warmth
    20 in enchant
    20 in fire mastery
1 in ice bolt, ice blast, glacial spike, frost nova, and blizzard.

    total 89 points

I was planning to use frozen orb to level through nightmare and then boost lightning mastery as my last 20 points

I was originally planning 20 in cold mastery, fire mastery and lightning mastery.

But I wasn't convinced that 1 in frozen orb would do anything as a backup to my enchanted attacks

points in lightning mastery boost lightning damage dealt through melee means, so he is probably using lots of small charms with lightning damage. Or has gear that adds lightning damage

edit and i would go 15/5 maybe would probably do the most damage against the most enemies, you could go 5/15if you wanted to go buriza on switch I think that minus to resist for cold tops out at 16 or 17 somewhere around there, so more than that is worthless

You should only really put more than one point into Cold Mastery if you're going for PvP. For PvM, a single point there would be sufficient. Pile the rest of your points into Frozen Orb if you want to use that.

Perhaps the enchantress will wear a Kingslayer weapon which adds +1 to Vengeance even to non-paladins and that skill benefits from masteries IIRC.

I believe the most common use of LM on a melee sorc would be with one or two Dream runewords, which attack extra lightning damage to your attack because of the Holy Shock aura. With LM, this damage could be increased quite a bit.

Krischan is right, a Kingslayer enchantress is a very powerful build (out of the non-cookie ones) and actually not that expensive. The hard part is actually the defensive part, as there are not enough points left to do a good ES sorc (usually). If you get rushed, this may not be true.

My plan for my enchantress was to maximize the masteries as well as I could because I heard that masteries increased elemental damage dealt so I thought it would be fun to get something that did a lot of elemental damage on its own then have that multiplied by the other masteries to help take care of fire immunes once I get into hell.

I got the idea when I found a 192 ED Lightsabre

Lightsabre is a lot of dex, and not really that good at all. Get a Gul rune and make kingslayer in some big axe.
