What is rerolling

I have seen threads in this forum, about rerolling charms. Please can someone tell me what this means?

'Rerolling' refers to the 3 perfect gem + magic item (typically a charm) Horadric cube combo.

Why do people do it? Rerolling a magic item with that cube combo is basically like finding another one with the same ilvl.

there are other recipes for rerolling rares, but they are too expensive/ mess around with Ilvls, so that they arent useful.

What can be useful, though, are the three recipes that rerolls magical/socketed weapons, using chipped/flawless gems on magical weapons and regular (i.e. Ruby, Skull, etc.) gems for socketed weapons (Note: the recipe that uses regular gems works on every weapon with sockets, be they non-magical, magical, rare, crafted, set or unique, so be careful!).

The result is a magical item (stats rerolled) with 1 or 2 sockets (50/50 chance). The item level is pretty low (25-30) but that doesn´t matter much for items with high enough QLVL.

Even throwing weapons can be rerolled with these recipes, but they don´t get any sockets, of course...

* Anything with QLVL 76 or more (that usually means the three high-end elite weapon types) can be rerolled to a Cruel weapon as long as the weapon type allows it.

* Sorceress orbs can be rerolled to Arch-Angels if they are elite orbs or Swirling Crystals.
