What is namelock?

Basically, it means that you tele with mouse on opponent. You will then end up on top of the opponent regardless of where the opponent goes within the period of time between you clicking for teleport and the end of the teleporting motion.

You can namelock with any character. When you click down on a player's name with a skill, that is holding namelock, when you switch to a different skill with the button held, the new spell is cast on the player.
Those namelocking 101 vids in mainaman's post should be a good desmonstration for players who dont know what namelock is.

Here is a vid I made like a year ago showing how to chain namelock from leftclick melee attack -> run -> tele.

This works with pretty much any melee type skill. Talon Zerk Smite Zeal ect. ect.
You can also chain any leftclick skill -> leftclick throwitem -> tele
That will chain tele from a leftclick namelock while not causing your character to move.

kick vs kick duel, of course being able to namelock the target is a big part of getting the drop on the other player, note that switching skills while namelocked isnt restricted to just tele, you can chain traps/mb/melee together from one skill to another when it's appropriate for the duel:

No namelock breaks when I teleport. Just my mouse is positioned at the center of the screen so I just click again to renamelock. Time it right and you can chain namelocks even if there is only a frame opening.

I sometimes hear of people namelocking with leftclick skills and then being able to do a delayed teleport anyway. How is that possible? I mean, you can't have teleport on leftclick can you?

It is not possible in legit d2 - might be possible with 3pps but I would prefer that we do not discuss this subject :wink3:

To namelock with left click you have to hotkey throw and whatever other skills you use on that side, just namelock with the skill then if they get away switch to throw on left and tele on right. Then hit tele and switch skills back.

Yeah I was wondering the same, after some recent thread with throw at left click suggested for delayed tele. I see it can be use for delayed charge :eek: maybe, but just have tried it the way you described it and it's not working. Obvoiusly you loose nl after pressing the right button. Or I just don't get it right...

You can't have teleport hotkeyed on left click but you can teleport of a leftclick namelock no problem with legit d2.

You see that in a bunch of my videos, you see it in ThatWasShockin's demonstration.

Namelock with any leftclick skill (lets use a hammerdin as an example, works for any class) like hammer, then switch to throw item to "delay" while still holding namelock and standing still, then you can tele off that namelock.
Or.. you can switch from hammer to smite, this will cause your character to walk at your opponent while namelocked, you can tele from this r/w namelock in the same way that I teleport on my assassin from leftclick talon namelocks.

So yes you can teleport off leftclick namelocks, even if you cant hotkey tele on leftclick.
