    What is max blocking?

All of the guides talk about calculating block rate, and about putting in enough dex to max it out. But when adding dex, how do I know when I have maxed?

And speaking of maxing ... how can a druid increase max resistance beyond 75?

If you hover the mouse over your Defensive rating, it'll show your %Chance to be hit by a certain monster.

If you're wearing a shield, it'll also say your Blocking %. 75% is Max Block. It can't go any higher.

A druid, as all other chars can, can wear items with +To Max resistance. An example of this is Thunder God's Vigor. It raises Max Lightning Resist by 10%. Making the Max 85% in that situation.

    The absolute Max is 95%.

I am almost entriely sure that there is a cap for maxing block and that the cap is 75%. What this means is that when wearing a Guardian angel, you aimn you dextery and shield to yield 55 and GA will take care of the rest. Generally, this means that you need to invest less points in Dextery.

No, you should still aim for 75, it takes into account the block on Guardian Angel.

There's a formula, based on shield block % and amount of Dex, that will tell you how much you need at a given level... But I haven't memorized it >_< On average, with a good shield, you need about 2 Dex for 1% block, I think.

    Total Blocking = (Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)

Blocking = A total of the Blocking on all of your items

    (from the Arreat Summit)

This calculation is done for you when your Chance to Block displays as hovertext over your Defense Rating (as alainpp66 said). If you feel like doing it yourself, just remember that the Blocking variable includes both your Shield Block % as well as any +% Block gear you have (such as Guardian Angel).

    Nicely done Fenris.

Mainly, that's handy when you know your final gear and you need to put some stat points in right away, so you calc it all out to how much base dex you need for max block with all your final gear.

    Did that make sense?

Oh, right. There's a "Dexterity for Max Block" version, too.

    Dexterity = (75 * (Character Level * 2) / (Blocking)) + 15

The 75 comes from the fact that 75% is max block. :) Round up for the actual Dexterity value you'd need.

(if you represent the Blocking value as a decimal, then change the 75 to a .75)
