What is/does baal charm?

Well, I seen in trading posts about someone selling or buying baal charms, and I counldn't figure out what it was. I can tell it has to do with Baal, but what exactly is it and what's it useful for?

Thx

When "Baal charm" is mentioned, generally we're talking grand charms. A Baal charm, in the purest sense, is any grand charm dropped by Baal, but grand charms dropped by Nihlathak and Diablo also qualify. They're wanted because they're "rerolled" using the Horadric Cube recipe of the charm plus three perfect gems, and "Baal charms" are the only ones that can get the +41-45 life affix. A "proven Baal charm" will be one showing +41 or greater life. Basically, people use them when trying to get a grand charm with +skill and +41-45 life.

So, Baal Charm = a grand charm dropped by Baal, Nihlathak, or Diablo (in Hell difficulty).

All items have a hidden value called itemlevel (ilvl) for short, that determines what mods can spawn on a magical or rare item. Grand Charms dropped by Hell Baal, Diablo and Nilathak have the highest possible ilvl (99), that allows for all the possible mods you can get on a Grand Charm.

The important one is the "of Vita"-suffix that can go as high as +41-45 life on Baal charms. People usually proceed to reroll these charms with the 3 pgem recipe, until they get a skiller with 41+ life.

Items from Diablo actually have an ilvl of 94 while it's 95 for Nihlathak, but that's still enough to have a chance on all affixes on GCs.
