What is a good build for poison charms?

I've accumulated a few decent poison charms. What is a good build to use them?

+23 to Life
+175 poison damage over 6 seconds

Foul Small Charm of Venom
Required Level: 31
+130 poison damage over 8 seconds

Foul Small Charm
Required Level: 31
+50 poison damage over 4 seconds

Septic Small Charm of Blight
Required Level: 13
+42 poison damage over 6 seconds

Toxic Small Charm of Frost
Required Level: 55
Adds 1-2 cold damage over 1 seconds
+100 poison damage over 5 seconds

Snake's Large Charm of Anthrax
Required Level: 25
+14 to Mana
+50 poison damage over 6 seconds

Toxic Grand Charm of Balance
Required Level: 20
+50 poison damage over 5 seconds
12% Faster Hit Recovery
I don't currently have an assassin or a barbarian.

Re: What is a good build for poison charms?

generally, poison damage and poison charms even more, are considered not that powerful, certainly not in pvm as this is a slow type of damage. If you look at pvp, you'll have a hard to time to get good damage over time, certainly if they have good poison resistance and poison time reduction.
So in short, there isn't really a build made for poison charms at this moment. They are often used to stop life regeneration of monster, though it's it.

That being said, some people over at the Amazon forum are fans of using a strafe/multishot Amazon with lots of poison. The advantage is that you can quickly poison all monsters in sight and that you have good enough tanks - valk and decoy - to keep the monsters away from you. If you really need to, you can even use freezing arrow to freeze the monsters.
It works quite good, however, as said, it's quite slow. It seems like a very good tactic for hardcore players as they doesn't need that much emphasis on dexterity to get decent damage. And because hardcore player often have more time.
An other idea would to do something like half poison damage, half physical damage. I'm not sure why you'd do this, though it can be done.

P.S. Have you done the calculation so that you know what kind of poison damage you can expect? It seems that you simply have a bunch of poison charms that you found somewhere. As far as I know, that's a very bad idea. To much difference in length and average damage over time can really hurt you damage. Check it out before you try it. I don't think you want to go to hell with just 300 poison damage now do you?

That is exactly what I have. I have no idea how to calculate poison damage. I don't know if the durations add or average, or something else. I don't know how the damage per frame is totaled. I've looked for information on that, but I couldn't find any. The wiki doesn't even have a page on poison damage. I've read the Tao of Poison, but I'm sure that most of that isn't applicable to the current version.

On bnet, a good poison charm is pretty valuable, but I didn't know that the only use was in pvp. I suppose that the charms are useless and valueless since I'm on SP.

I could throw the 175/23 on my fury druid to stop monster regen, but I intend on making him a Treachery armor anyway.

I have a zealer on bnet NL. He uses a grief phaseblade and the venom proc allows him to kill PIs (slowly). Maybe those charms can be used on my fury druid for PIs. Perhaps you can tell me how to calculate the damage?

Thanks.

EDIT: Okay, I found a guide dated in October. So, I'll read it, and post any questions when I'm done.

EDIT:

Well, that was a depressing read. I guess I'll put one on my druid so I will know which enemies his fury cycle is hitting based on which are green.

A strafezon with "silence" bow would be great. The high blind makes enemies just stand there taking damage

I put my poison charms to my bow barb. Five charms gives 1152 poison with 7.4s (average duration). I use duress armor, so cannot use venom.

I use mixed elemental charms, not just poison (other charms give 13-375 lightning, 13-25 fire and 33-55 cold).

Bow barb is little odd but fun build anyway. My 4th bow barb so far and 1st in this ladder.

@DH: I've made what I think is an optimal Bowbarb and it didn't seem to kill that well relative to my other underpowered builds. Care to share details?

What kind build you made? This is my 4th bow barb, 1st in this ladder.
Only maxed BO, and around 60 saved skills points. Not sure what to do these this time. Found 3x wraith flights so far, some kind of thrower/bow hydrid is possible, but testing full bow build first anyway.

I plan something like this. I want build that can kill all kind of immunes and never want to park monster. Extra fast, PI Hephasto/Lister for example I want to take it down without problems.

Upped kuko (188 dex req, 180% ench) good group killer with pierce.
Upped WWS as 2nd weapon. Never run out arrows, this is bow made for lazy me. And that magic arrows gives nice ar boost against champions&bosses. Good way to deal physical immunes too. Little chance for amp. Gives resist too and knockback.
Kuko is good against waves 1-3 in throne, WWS much better with last two.

I need 50ias for 8frame attack with kuko (with faith merc). 15ias from kuko, 15ias helmet and 20ias gloves.
With WWS (nef+15ias jool) gives same 8 frame speed.

Rogue merc with Faith needs 30ias for 8frame speed, so 2xias jool in Giant skull. Gives nicely knockback+little crushblow too. Duress armor.

Lava gout. Gives that 20ias and ar boost when enchant triggers. Little enchant damage helps with kuko too.

Razortail for pierce and little damage boost.

War travs or crush blow boots.

2x Raven for ar and gives nicely cold damage too. With duress cold damage its enough to help against immunes. Charms are there too to mix all kind of damage so what ever resist monster have, I can still kill it quite fast.

Blackhorn's face (15ias jool) gives that Prevent monster heal and lightning absorb. And little slow. If other helmet, then I change Raven to Nature piece ring. I have Riphook in stash If I really want to slow some monster, like Baal.

Not sure if Forty or Duress is better armor for char and merc. Using 2x duress at the moment.

As Barb is 2nd fastest bow user, I want to use that 8frame attack. Looks good at field too when barb shoots fast.

Rogue merc is only option for me, as I hate when iron maiden kills my merc.
And two 8frame attackers with knockback, no need for tank, as no monster can't get through.

That's an interesting idea. I was planning on making HotO with my first Vex, but maybe I will make Silence first. Thanks. Those few charms only 590 damage, but I do have many lower poison charms. Maybe the inclusion of some of those will increase the duration.

Passion has +10 blind, so maybe some build that zeals and blinds with high poison damage. Or, this might be cool: a druid with ravens, and some throwing weapon.

That sounds like fun. Probably not hell viable with the gear I have, but fun.

It's also got 25% monster-flee. Throw on some Open Wounds gear (Duress, DracsGrasp, GoreRiders, etc.) and you can have monsters die while they're running away from you. My zeal-enchantress noticed this happening on occasion, and it was definitely enjoyable. I don't know if you could make it entirely reliable, but if you could, I think it would be a lot of fun.
