What in your experience is the most effective PVP sorc build?

I was originally thinking about adding a poll but decided to keep this open-ended so that anything goes.

I am rebuilding my sorc all over (currently a FO/FB/Meteor) that isn't doing pretty well in duels. I want a build that is designed 99% PVP.

What sorc cookie-cutter build has been your best experience so far? Is it:
    1. Pure fire/fireball focus
    2. Pure fire/meteor focus
    3. Pure cold/frozen orb focus
    4. Pure cold/blizzard focus
    5. Pure lightning/chain lightning focus
    6. Pure lightning/thunder storm focus
    7. *insert your build here*

These are the ones I've seen in most public duels and the pure fire/fireball sorcs seem to dominate the battlefield.

Before I spend another few days getting to level 80 I want to ask your opinion first. I want to follow a single tree in terms of main attack to be used so anything invested in other trees will just be to function as a sorc (i.e. teleport).

Appreciate any feedback from those who believe they have sorcs that dominate duelz.

fireball sorcs because they're the fastest sorc breed in an enviorment where anyone can teleport now except for shapeshifting druids i think the sorc must make full use of her superior casting speeds to all other characters
    fire also deals good damage
    can be spammed offscreen

    yo raff. :howdy:

200 fcr fire sorcs are pretty pwn, no other caster can keep up with them and they spam firebolts/balls like crazy.

i've also dueled some nice ES/orb sorcs, but its not much fun.. they just hit and run.

i know its .10 but with 08 and 09 experiences it was fireball then 09 was orber. with synergies, it could be totally different. so lets compare fireball and FO.

orb - pretty high mana. has delay. can spread out everywhere, but can be dodged. [whole screen is orbed] cold will pierce resistances*

fball - standard mana cost. no delay. can go very long distance before it dissipates. shoots in a straight line. CAN be dodged EASILY. very very high damage.

    Lightning/ES Soso definitely.

    - 1-mana-cost-wonder-teleport,
    - ~30k dmg,
    - With minor prebuffing, 89%ES absorb with only 1 actual point invested,
    - Charged bolt.

You learn how to properly play a Lit-soso, Lit-Soso > Other Sosos.

    Enough said.

Very interesting replies. And hiya too Pizza. Haven't seen you in two days.

So far TonZZa's reply has been the most intriguing. Tonzza, do you have a lightning sorc right now? Mind if you share your little secret? What would be the stats and skills maxed? Equipment? ~30K Damage is a very bold claim. Most fireball sorc who have the godliest gear only have ~15K fireball. Mind if we met in game sometime?

Ahh thanks for the detailed info. I'm going to rebuild my sorc exactly just like what you recommended. What do you use for gloves though? I'd assume it's Frostburns?

Have you tried this build in duels yet? How have you faired?

lol i always froget gloves yep frosties ^_^

make sure you get 117fc because light/clight have diff break point.

haven't dueled with it, but it should work very dmg/tanking/living throw long duels this sorc with barbs bo/druids oak is very deadly.

If you are going all energy you must keep your es in 90% range (also nice life charms helps alot ^_^ )

Yep, I have a Lit-soso named 'PiiPikaPii' on Europe ladder, I've dueled with her quite some time already(she is my fourth Lit-Soso). I dare to claim that I'm one of the best Lit-Sosos on Europe ladder, you want to prove me wrong, whisper *TonZZa5 ;)

    My equipment are as follows,
    Helm: Griffon's Eye 'Facet'
    Amulet: +3Lightning/~100life
    Armor: CoH
    Weapon: HotO
    Weapon2: CtA
    Shield: Spirit
    Shield2: Spirit
    Rings: Sojs
    Belt: Arach
    Gloves: Frostburns
    Boots: Sandstorm Trek's

    Inventory,
    1 x Lit Skiller with 12Fhr
9 x Lit skillers with life
    9 x Small Charms with Life/17Mana
    Annihilus

    Block equipment,
    Armor: Viper 'Facet'
Amulet: Crafted Amulet with Skills, Fcr, and dex
    Shield: Whitstan's 'Eld'

    Prebuff equipment,
    +3 Lightning Circlet
    +3 ES Ormus'
    +9ES Memory

    Stats:
    Strength, Enough for gear
Dexterity, Enough for max block with block gear
    Vitality, Base
    Energy, Remaining stat points

    PiiPikaPii with basic equipment,
    - Lvl 90
    - 89% ES(with prebuff)
    - ~1500life / ~3100Mana
    - 86% Fhr
    - ~31k Lightning
    - ~1k Charged bolt
    - ~2.6k Thunder Storm
    - 117Fcr(32Fcr Spirit)
    - All resists maxed on hell, except fire(~60)

I basically beat every character with the exception of Dreamer Paladins(Dream helm + shield) who are smart enough to use "Resist Lightning" -aura. There isn't much you can do against an opponent with 95Lit resists together with one absorb item, mostly Tgods. Well, ofc you can use an Infinity merc but that's considered BM. :)

I'll be quitting D2 in about a month or so, then I'll write a more thorough guide concerning my Soso, together with Strategies against different Chars and so forth. Stay tuned folks. :)

Hi Tonzza, mind sharing what skills you maxed? Thanks a lot. I'm assuming that you maxed Lightning (obvious) but did you also put points in TS? Thanks a lot.

Oh, It seems that I forgot to write down the skills, my bad. Well, here they are,

    20 Telekinesis
    20 Lightning
    20 Charged Bolt
    20 Lightning Mastery
    Rest into Chain Lightning.

I don't understand why most of the guides I've read about Lit-Sosos advices you to max Chain Lightning instead of Charged Bolt, I mean that's just crazy. What do ya actually benefit from Chain Lightning? People say that it's useful against Druids and Necros in order to wipe out their summons. Cmon, Lightning is as efficient as Chain Lightning vs. Druids, because of its pierce, with every hit it usually kills atleast two wolves, including their Oak Sage, together with destroying the Druid's Cyclone Armor. Unfortunately, Chain Lightning doesn't deal enough dmg to take out the Cyclone Armor, thus Lightning is naturally a much better choice here.

What comes to Necros, if they stack minions against you they usually revive Lit-immunes, with that being said Chain Lightning does no good, well neither does Lightning. Against summoners that aren't BM, just tele up to them and Lightning 'em to death, there's no need for Chain Lightning, which will only make the process alot slower.

Now then, what can you do with Charged Bolt? Charged bolt is practically incredibly useful against each and every melee opponent that doesn't use any absorb at all(most importantly no Tgod's).
    - Bowazons get totally raped by Charged Bolt because of their dodge.
    - You can tank Barbs using it, they die in a matter of seconds.
    - WW-Sins with loads of OW and Psn. Yep, you can tank 'em using Charged Bolt.
    - Smiter/Zealer/Charger -Pallys. Wonderful isn't it, you can take out these lagg-desynch-Grief-using-bastards easily by just casting Charged Bolts in the direction from where they are charging at you.

...And the list continues. Remember though that if e.g. the above mentioned enemies use Tgod's, which you will notice pretty fast, your level of skill comes into play. :)

    Hi TonZZa,
Thanks for the info. I almost maxed Chain Lightning. Geez what was I thinking.
    You're the best.
Oh one last thing, did you put any points into ES and any of the cold armors?

Only one invested point into ES, you'll get it prebuffed with the gear I mentioned to 89%Absorb. One skillpoint is crucial, since there are occasions when you loose your ES in battle, mostly when dueling other Lit-Sosos(they wipe out your manapool in one hit). Then it's pretty handy to quickly recast it, even though it's not prebuffed to the max. Since returning to town is out of question in a duel ofc.

If you want a Cold Armor, Shiver armor would be the best choice for obvious reasons. To get Shiver Armor you'd need to invest four skill points in order to get it, now that's roughly 2-3k Lit-dmg, thus IMO it's a big 'no-no'. Much healthier/more expensive way of getting it would be simply by precasting it. With that being said, find yourself a +9ES Memory with Shiver Armor on it. Personally I don't use a Cold Armor at all, since I haven't got my hands on such a nice Memory(they are darn expensive too), yet Shiver Armor would be extremely helpful against Chargers, since it would slow 'em down.

    1.4k hp

    so go ES/Frozen orb sorc
