Xbox...Halo, CS...and I hear only Xbox is getting Doom3 (if other consoles get it, it will definitely be best on Xbox b/c of the pc-like architecture).

Silly gamer, Doom is for computers. The N64 version proved that.

This is not to bash X-box fans, but all I hear is Halo, Halo, Halo. Is that the only decent game for that system? I have scads of great games for my ps2 and GC, but nothing remotely appeals to me for X-box (that I cannot get for ps2 or computer).

Supposively I am "part" of the industry but I am also a gamer and it seems like there simply aren't any good games coming out anymore, and I really don't know why. My best guess might be that all games "have" to be 3D now (and I'm not entirely sure why that is) and since 3D is simply too difficult to implement in such a way it both looks good and is easy to use (and we're talking about 1st or 3rd person 3-D not isometric like d2 or ffx) all games are crap.

Edit: we need more simpler games out on the market--not ones that emphasize 3-D, physics, or AI but instead emphasize fun. Games that have 3-D, a physics engine, and the newest path-finding algorithms are not fun. They are impressive, but not fun.

I have followed Squaresoft for a while, never being disappointed with their games.
I liked all the FF games, besides Mystic Quest, which wasn't by Squaresoft, so... Also, Chrono Trigger/Cross, et cetera. Great games. I follow them, no matter what console it's on. A word of advice, it doesn't matter what system you get.. buy one and game, you'll be happy with whatever you have, unless it's a Commodore 64.

I won't tell you what you should or should not get.

I will give you some tips on finding what *you* want.

Read up a little on the various consoles.

The Gord of actsofgord.com did some interesting bits regarding the GameCube and Xbox and their 'survivability'. These were done a bit ago, but still a good read.

Gamecube:
http://www.actsofgord.com/Proclamations/chapter01.html

Xbox:
http://www.actsofgord.com/page46.html

howstuffworks.com details aspects of some of the consoles.

PlayStation 2:

http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/ps2.htm

GameCube:

http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/gamecube.htm

Xbox:

http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/xbox.htm

After checking out various aspects of the current consoles, you should then check out what each has to offer, in terms of games.

There are a lot of sites out there with information on current titles and planned titles.

http://gamespot.com is one. I'm certain others can tell you their favorites.

Ultimately, it is your money. Spend it on what YOU think best suits your 'needs'. Just please, please, PLEASE get at least somewhat informed before you spend. ;)

I'm gonna have to go with PS2, I love it you can play DVDs without buying a remote (WTF were you thinking Microsoft?). And its got FFXI and I'm a HUGE fan of the Final Fantasy series, as you all can tell.

But, in all realism, I'd get a SNES, that is the best system ever, that and PC.
