What class to use "Breath of Dying" runeword to?

I wonder what I`m gonna use my "Breath Of Dying" runeword to(since I got a Zod rune today). Anyone got an idea what weapon to put the runes into, and what class to use the best runeword in the game* for?

A polebarb? Swordbarb? Axebarb? :scratch:
Remember that it has to be a six socketed weapon.

Feel free to post what you would done or have done..!

* when I say "best" I mean rearest, and hardest to get, and highest quality, but not most used. (Enigma is more used).

From previous post i believe the best item to put BotD into is a 1.09 Etheral Superior Berserker Axe. I haven't done this myself, i have just read posts where this has been done.

I believe it was pre 1.08 ones, where eth give a hidden bonus of +50% max damage.

If you want not most used, zod a wirt's leg. :teeth:

In this case, the best class to get a Breath of the Dying weapon for is always your favourite class, of course! There's no use in making a cool BotD zerker axe if you don't like palas and/or axe barbs, you see :)

If you like zons, you can go for a Crusader/Hydra bow, if you like lance barbs, get a War Pike, if you like paladins you can go for a Berserker Axe, a Colossus Blade for sword barbs, a Giant Thresher or Great Polearm for pole barbs, etc

The absolute best choice would probably be a 1.07 superior ethereal Berserker Axe, since it's the 1h weapon with highest average damage, can be used in a paladin and a barb (maybe in a druid too, tho I haven't heard of any), and it's just plain cool despite the looks :)

1.07 Ethereal Superior Berserker Axe (in 1.07, Eth items got an additional +50% Max dmg...). These can be 'racked' with enough patience (the 1.07 guide should still be floating around... check the guides thread).

As to which class, you can choose based on your preferences... any melee builds can get a lot of use out of these weapons.

edit: whilst you can put BotD in a bow, you lose the Zod benefit (indestructible) so it's not quite so good. Plus bows can't be ethereal... if you like bow-wielding characters though it's worth a look.

Feeling the Zod envy again. I want my indestructible ethereal Tomb Reaver darn it!

But anyway...

Your options:

1-handed weapons: war spike, phase blade, zerker axe. Berzerker axe is by far the best choice with better damage than the other two weapons. Great for paladin or barb, good for druid.

2-handed weapons: archon staff, great poleaxe, giant thresher, ghost spear, war pike, thunder maul.

The choices get a little more complicated here, depending on which character you choose.

Druid - Archon staff (high minimum damage, low reqs), Thunder Maul (monstrous max damage), Great Poleaxe (high damage and range 5).

Whirlbarb - Great Poleaxe, Ghost Spear (both range 5, hit the last breakpoint, good damage). The ghost spear has quite high dex requirements. You lose both range and speed with the archon staff and thunder maul.

Concentrate/Berzerk barb - Thunder maul or archon staff. Go for the most damage and hurt things but good.

definatley put it in a eth item. eth items now they can get 15% enhanced damage good luck this that tho and some can even incluse attack rating.so i say if a sword barb put in 15% 6os colosuss blade but i mean those are RARE i mean RARE or a 15% ed zerker axe or war spike. zerkers axes have more dmg then war spikes but are slower. war spiked got less max dmg but more min dmg and are fast get 4 fpa with em easier. that is my thinkings :). nice find on the zod

personally: polearm. i always use act2 mercs, and it would see gametime for every single SC character i ever play.

I think I`ll go for the polebarb, because of the range of that weapon and the high max dmg. The 1.07 eth zerker axe might be to hard to get. (Now you`ll probably think; if you have got a zod, you can get anything). But I dont think there are many of those 1.07 eth zerkers out there now. But I want range anyway, so I`ll go for a polebarb using berzerk and whirlwind. (maybe just one of them, I need a guide!). Post more, I`m sure it will help anyway, maybe you can make me change my mind if you got a better idea.

Correction - Enigma is the best runeword in the game :worship:

And I got a Zod rune today too :sleep:

chiam ace, i very much doubt your zod claim...
and im sure BOTD would be more widely used than enigma if they both had the same rune requirements. not everyone who has a ber has a enigma (although it is a high %) but almost everyone who has a zod (there cant be many people...) use it in a BOTD, as you would never waste it on eth item jsut to make it invincible. if its not BOTD'ed, its wasted.

Farting Bob: In the unlikely event I ever get my hands on a Zod (only 255 more Guls from the Hellforge before I can cube one!), I'm not going to make a BOTD weapon. I'm going for an Ethereal Shael-Shael-Zod Tomb Reaver instead. With 100% IAS and max damage of 855 (with perfect ED), its close to the ultimate druid weapon. (7/4 Fury for wolves, 5 frame maul for bears with a bit of extra IAS).

I traded for a Zod on bnet, and made a 1.10 Ladder 408% Enhanced Damage Ethereal Breath of the Dying Bezerker axe. It started with 9% ED, so if I had a plain eth zerker I would have had 399%ED

The damage is around 132-538 damage (one handed) which is of course amazing. Here's a screenshot, and I know you all think it's corrupt, etc, cause its on BNet.. but I found the eth zerker myself :thumbsup: and the SoJ used to trade for the Zod, and the Full Tals set used to trade for the Vex. I bet the El was duped though :lol:
