what are crown of ages good for?

the first thing that comes to mind are barb builds, but its obvious that arreats, which are far more common, are superior there. so what exactly is a coa good for then?

can you expand a little on why someone would choose it for a particular build, over say, shako?

you use it in pvp b/c it has big resists, more dr% (well up to 15), fhr (vital in pvp) and 2 sockets. the sockets get you a) MORE dr% with ber runes b) MORE resists c) MORE fhr or d) something cool like 40ed/15ias, 15res/15ias or something like that. its more versatile and provides things that shako cant.

but honestly, in pvm i would just use vampire gaze, or shako for cheapness factor :D

Crown of Ages is an excellent helm, for both PvP or PvM.

    - +1 Skills
    - Damage Reduction
    - Resistances
    - Hit Recovery
    - 2 sockets
    - No Shako ugliness on a Paladin

There is very little here which is not good. If you are lucky enough to gain one with high resists and 2 sockets you have a fabulous helm.

The 2os allow you to customise the helm even further. IAS/Resists/Damage.

Arreat's Face is quite possibly much more preferred for a Barbarian than Crown of Ages, which is utilised by a lot of Paladins.

    - Avengers
    - Zealots
    - Hammerdins
    - Smiters

All can benefit from this helm.

and you can socket chams for CBF
personally I don't like the indecent str requirement for most builds, sure zealots and barbs can use them, but it's laughable to see some semispellcaster builds try to wear a COA

What do you consider a semi-spellcaster?

    Half-life

Maybe he means Poisonmancers or sorcies who use Enchant a lot? I know they don't have a lot of strength to spare.

well there we go, my question is answered!! i do not yet have a zealer! and i am very lucky, mine came with 2 sockets, 30 resists, and 13 dr! it will be a while before i start him (i have at least 3 others in mid 80s to get to 90), but now i have my eyes on other equipment to gather.
