WF socket advice - shael vs IAS/dmg jewel

I'm a returning player so fairly new to LOD ladder (USwest), I have searched these forums and found some limited discussion on this, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone could offer some opinions before I made a decision.

I have a pit strafer with a WF currently socketed with SHAEL.
Using:
Goldwrap
Andy's Visage (steelskull as well)
20% IAS gloves (other junk mods)
Skullder's PT armor
ATMA's scarab
no other IAS gear

I'm still building wealth atm, but I found a 15% IAS jewel with 29% ED last night and was thinking about using the recipe to remove the SHAEL from the WF to put this jewel in.

Would I see much of an improvement in dmg in the WF with this jewel? Is this a waste of the jewel I found? I'm still fairly poor - maybe 50 pgems on my mule along with a GUL rune so my buying power for better items is pretty crappy still.

Let's see. Goldwrap (10IAS)+Andy(20IAS)+Glove(20IAS)=50IAS. With Shealed WF (+40), you just pass the BP for 9/3 strafe. If you go with 15IAS jewel instead of 20IAS, you will drop to 10/3 strafe. If you socket your helm with another 15 IAS jewel, you'll maintain the same strafe speed. The next BP for WF is 120IAS (to make 9/2 strafe) but you'll need to sacrifice some MF gears (15IAS jewel in Mav helm or treachery armor). Try to get yourself a Faith merc once you gain wealth

BTW, there is another way to build your wealth. You can clean the high level place (like the Pits) with ZERO MF quick. Lots of White/Grey stuffs can be sold for much nicer price than unique/set items. Say, if you can find 4OS +3 skill GMB, you can get ~1HR from that (at least for east ladder). Or, high def eth armor are very valuable.

Thanks chien, I've had a hard time completely understanding the strafe breakpoints with my gear and this clears it up for me. I'm out of socket quests so I guess I need to get another character to Act5 now (didn't see a recipe on Arreat Summit for adding socket to a unique item with the cube).

As for the increased damage on jewel in the windforce - would I see a noticeable improvement in damage with that? I am not sure I quite understand how that +29% would apply and if it would be worth the effort.

As for building wealth with zero MF in the pits, I think I might play around with your suggestion. I'm sure I miss out on some stuff, I'm always looking for the GMB's, and etheral 4 socket armors, but I've found it too time consuming to alt tab back and check the 'bobo socketable guide' to check out all the other stuff. I wish there was a simple listing of like the top ten most expensive socketable items or something.

Socketables worth collecting, IMO:

1. 4-socket MBs/GMBs (+1 to +3). +1 and +2 can be sold for pgems, and +3 for HR or more if superior.
2. Elite armors. Superior ED and ethereal ones are usually most valuable. Look for 3-4 sockets. Archon Plate, Wire Fleece, Great Hauberk, Dusk Shroud, etc. are popular. Sacred Armors, Balrog Skins, etc. may be valuable as Merc armors or especially if ethereal and socketed.
3. Superior ED Mage Plate. Popular for "Enigma."
4. Elite polearms (Giant Threshers, Threshers, Great Poleaxes, Colossus Voulges, etc.), especially if these are ethereal.
5. Elite swords & axes. Whether normal or ethereal depends on sockets and what rune word is best to make in them.
6. Superior Great Bows, Blade Bows, or Hydra Bows with 4 sockets. These can be made into Act 1 "Faith" Rogue Bows.
7. 3-socket Bone Visage, +3 BO Barbarian helms with 3 sockets, etc.
8. Elite spears like ethereal War Pikes or Ghost Spears. These are made into "Breath of the Dying" spears for incredible damage.
9. Anything else that strikes your fancy and you think may be useful.

I end up picking up a lot of stuff I think may be useful but could never have any trade value and later I find that it does. A little while ago I sold a 4os Hydra Bow I had for the equivalent of a Pul, because someone needed it. I found it who knows how many months ago and just left it on a mule.

Now back to my post in response to the last few.
Elite? That helps, but Normal Exceptional do fine a lot, Superior costs but Eth can be super on a Merc. Types and # sockets for ladder or non depending that tells you everything, Class Specific or circlet types and staff skills for the win.
