Werebears...?

Hello, kind sir's!
I'm new. My name is Owen (the P in my name is intentional, get the pun?). Greetings.

I was just wondering if there were any more Werebears after 1.09, I've seen around 2 in the 6 months I've been in pvp.

I play on US WEST Ladder, if there are any Fury/rabies, or any shifters for that matter, /w *thelonious2. Would be nice to see how I match up against COMPETENT non-pubby duelers.

I usually mooch around in GBR-1.

There are some bears out there they tend to be more fireclaw now then maul though.

Has anyone got any successful pvp maul bears 1.10? I'd really enjoy the challenge of making one, and have been nothing but disheartened but people telling me they're not worth the time.

If you are just dvding, then they can be pretty good. I have made one successful maul bear (in the process of designing multiple others), but the lack of ar makes them hard to be good private melee duelers, although I am working on that too. The key to making a maul bear work is stun (obviously). Your damage won't be great, your ar is gonna suck, your defense will never equal a paladins or barbs, but you can make everything stand there long enough to hit it again. Your ar needs to top at least 20k with maul (I have managed to hit 30k+), you are going to need a shaeled ss, you are going to need at least 86 faster hit recovery vs. most opponents, and your weapon choices are very limited ( to the 110 ias phase blade or 105 ias caddy). But...maulers have the luxury of mixing attacks, something that other builds can't really do effectively. Maul and fireclaw hybrids are very good mixtures. Basically, standard mauler build, ie. max:: Maul, werebear, HoW, lycanthropy , and fireclaws. Stone is just about the best armor, providing 10-12k defense (doesn't seem like much, but it helps a LOT more than you think) and the free damage synergy to fireclaws, allowing for about 2k fire damage with a few ss charms (about 4 or 5). this also gives you the one ability that maulers need...the mixed damage attack for stun lock. yes, it is possible to stun lock wolves these days, and is it ever fun to do it.

In summary:: Are you fairly rich? as in, can you get the ar/damage/life charms that you will need to make him? You *have* to get them or he isn't viable. Are you willing to learn to shockwave? You need that initial stun 98% of the time for a successful duel conclusion. Are you willing to go without 10k+ damage numbers that elemental and botd users can get? You will be lucky to top 3k with a caddy unless you have the gear to support it. In short, good luck. I have my bear on east. Pm me if you want to see him or there are any wolves out there that want to duel him.

there are some semi-successful maulers out there, but none (that i've seen) are so successful that they can beat the top of the class melee duelers. Thus, this is what makes them rare, yet fun as well. And you will want to be maul/fc because after you charge maul getting the extra damage from fc is just cream on the pie. However, if your gonna do what i seen a lot of 'maul/fc' druids do and basically put all your gear except weapon towards fc then I wouldnt bother and just do a pure fc.

I was going to max Grizzly rather than Fc, and after that I think I'm still going to stick with it, more of a challenge. I have the funds to equip it, that doesn't concern me. I was thinking I was going to use the new runeword Fortitude, I use it on my Ladder fury Druid, and he can deal around 17k damage depending on weapon (ebotd tm or ribcracker).

Fortitude has 300% enhanced damage AND 150% enhanced defense, not to mention massive def and certain % chance to cast chilling armor.

Oh, and thanks for encouraging me. Nice to know that your bears are succesful, or 'semi succesful'.
