We're old...

Re: We're old...

He was making reference to the perception that time moves faster the older one gets. That is something I can relate to.

I think I was 22 when I saw my first pong game, I'm 58 now.

I (dad) was the family Duck Hunt champion also.
actually, I meant that when playing video games, time flies really fast. However, any answer is fine :)

Re: We're old...

my father built his first gaming rig when he was about 57. it was great it looked like it belonged in a college dorm. He dosen't really get in to the faster pace games like some first person shooters. He's more in to dark age of camalot and diablo genre(about 15-20 hrs/wk). he's a carpenter but loved anything "techy". We had an old mac given to us when i was about 10. It wieghed about 60 lbs and used old school floppies.

I just turned 33 I have a career and a wife. I cant wait to have kids so I have another excuse to play games. I dont watch tv too much so games are what I do in my some of my free time. long gone are the days of marathon gaming but a healthy balance is always good.

It really helps if your girl can at least tolerate games. My wife is into wii, but I dont think she'll ever get in to diablo. oh well. she likes the fact that I'm home and not drinking at the bar.

To play DIII to the MAX, you need to stay in your parents basement until you're in the late 40's, otherwise you're a failure and I beat you at leveling.

Next!

Oh Happy Days !!! I thought I was the only person over 55 playing D2 LOD and was feeling kinda lonely! Hopefully, you all are good gamers and not one of those smart-aleky pk'ers..lol... Anyway, I'm an "empty nester" and have done about everything I've wanted to do in life and this is now my "Me Time". I got into D2 LOD when I kept bugging my grown sons to find me Castlevania because I needed an extra outlet in the "between time" before starting on another social action project. You know, those where you see the older women participating in (charitable/volunteer committees, etc.). My sons said I wasn't ready for "WoW" since it had been so long since I had played and I didn't have the gaming I.Q. to master it (humph!). Plus he knew I was too thrifty to pay the monthly fee. Instead, he gave me D2 LOD and said it was another RPG i would probably like. Well...anyway one thing let to another and I found myself playing D2 ... oh around 30-40 hrs a week (and I work full-time). I've pulled a few all nighters with D2...just wanna get my assn up another level...get those skill points...one more magic find, etc., and all of this was in Single Player LOL. After a couple of years, my sons convinced me to play multi-player...after that every spare moment was "mfing" and "level-runs" and trying to read every guide I could find on Assassins. I tried that party stuff, but got pk'ed a couple of times, cursed/blasted out for whatever reason ppl have in being mean, and finally retreated to playing private games. I remember one time, my oldest son hide my disks because he said I played that game too much and needed another one. I was "allowed" to play "The Sims" ... UGH ... no killing, Meph, Baal, Pits, magic finding (boring !!!!) lol. That didn't last long.

Anyway, studies now say that whatever video game you play, it keeps the ole brain cells sharp and in tune. I don't call myself a "powergamer" but I do love the challenge and mental release after working at a stressful job with stressful people 9 hours a day and then coming home playing D2 for 6/8 hours straight and every spare weekend moment! I get to eradicate the enemies while praying for their salvation (big smiles). Plus in these hard financial times...it's Free !!! Thank Goodness !!!

I can't wait for D3 to come out so I can keep the ole' creative juices flowing. At my age, men only want younger women and besides if he can't play D2 what do I need him for ~ been there done that. Right now, I've got all I need with my birds and game.

With each day we live, it is a gift...I just don't want my gift to run out before D3 is released! Hurry Up Blizzard ~ this ole lady ain't got all day ~ time's a wasting ~ LOL

Oh..and by the way, I started with PacMan...moved to Castlevania and have now found the most exciting (imho) RPG ever! I know D3 will just Rock! Female Witch-Doctor here I stand !

Re: We're old...

I was annoyed at first seeing an old thread rivived but than i read your post and i just wanted to say good for you. It is hard time with the economy right now and the reason i quit wow, and got back to playing d2 with in the past 2 weeks. And i do not regret it. I played diablio since the release of the first game, and can not wait for the new one to come out.

I remember reading rumors and stuff for a long time, and then when diablo 3 was anounce officialy i was never so excited, i know this is sad but many probally will agree, Diablo 2 stole my soul and i cant wait for D3 to do the same.

I think it is great for someone your age actually enjoy games, its often i run into people as they get older and say games are for children, and i only feel sorry for them not be able to enjoy such a wonderful thing.

next time you sons hide you disk, break there fingers!!! joking :)

Re: We're old...

I loved Diablo II, and I played it a lot (as anyone who knew me online can attest). I stopped playing when I was a sophomore in college. By the time Diablo III comes out (I'm assuming late 2010, early 2011), I'll be established at my job, living on my own and taking night classes. Giving it some thought, it's pretty likely I won't have either the time or the energy to devote to long hours on the computer cutting down zombies. I would guess that a lot of the kids who played DII will be far from kids when DIII is released. The generation that devoted so much time to DII is all grown up. When I used to play, I would think about how cool a sequel would be, but now it seems like I've aged out of the video-game demographic. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way, or has some thoughts on this... :coffee:

Re: We're old...

I was 2nd year in college (graphic design) when D1 came out. It (and Carmageddon) were my first computer games. And my first real online experience.

I was I'm guessing about 20. Well actually let me look it up.

I bought the game in July of 1997 so I was 21.

Now I have a wife, a home, and a baby on the way. I have been through the D2 and D2 exp announcement, was using this site the whole time. I bought them both on opening day. I was in the D2 beta - I recall staying up all night playing it.

This is actually the number one reason why blizzard HAS to create new and dynamic systems of game play for Diablo 3. As much as we are all fans of Diablo 2, and have fond memories, we're also all completely disinterested in playing a carbon copy of Diablo 2.

Essentially, this iteration ofthe Diablo series needs to hold the attention of an older demographic, and so it better be more immersive, intelligent, and have an actual plan for the end game, or else it won't see the long term success that Diablo 2 has had, and it probably won't see the short term either. As soon as people hear "It's just D2 again." The game fails.
