Re: weapons that were meant for diablo 3!!!
Actually, the weapons in diablo 2 are particularly realistic. In the game there exist a large variety of swords, axes and polearms that actually exist in the real world. To remove/replace those weapons with "anime" weapons would severely detract from the lore and feel of the Diablo world.
So while I agree that in most cases appealing to realism in a fantasy game is ridiculous in this case it is not because realism is a defining feature of Diablo (melee) weapons.
When I see people suggesting huge swords with two tips and flaming skulls set in between them, spears with five points attached with chains, double ended hammers with spikes all over them, or three level crossbows made out of statues of naked women, I don't understand it.
Where did they come up with the idea that these fit the diablo universe at all?
What wrong with a Scottish claymore? A British longbow? Indian katars? It used to be that Diablo made itself stand out from other fantasy games by having the world being invaded my demons resemble our own in the middle ages.
Now Sanctuary looks just like any other random nerd fan service world with "badass" (read:generic fantasy) designs everywhere.
Of course, Diablo 3 will be an outstanding game anyway. This is Blizzard. I hate the new unifying art styles in all their games, but no one can deny that they're better than anyone else at making fun games.
