    weapon for BOTD

    These days I had a “privilege†to view in some trading games the famous BOTD’s. After looking at several of them I have notice that people wasted some most wanted runes: Zod or Vex without calculating the best weapon choice. I saw an eth thunder maul and eth phase blade. I thought to my self what a waste of time, energy and precious runes. That’s why I did some calculations for you all lazy ones who never thought that a single hit is not that important as damage per time. This chart is for a Zealot, zeal = 5, fanatism = 20, ias = 60%. The first number is average damage of a weapon for a single hit (with 0 enchantments) taken form arreat summit database of weapons; the second number is attacks per second taken from this site.So all results are damage/second.

    Champion Axe 76.5 x 4.1 = 313.7
    Glorious Axe 92 x 4.4 = 404.8

    War Spike 39 x 6.2 = 248.1
    Berserker Axe 47.5 x 6.2 = 294.5 => best 1h

    Ogre Maul 91.5 x 4.1 = 375.1
    Thunder Maul 106.5 x 4.1 = 436.7

    Great Poleaxe 86.5 x 4.1 = 354.7
    Giant Tresher 77 x 4.1 = 315.7

    Ghost Spear 86.5 x 5 = 432.5
    War Pike 105.5 x 5 = 527.5 => best 2h

    Archon staff 91 x 4.1 = 373.1

    Phase blade 33 x 6.2 = 204.6

    Colossus Blade 86.5 x 5 = 432.5
    ============================================
    This is for a Fury-Druid with werewolf = 20, fury =20, weapon IAS = 60%

    Champion Axe 76.5 x 5 = 382.5
    Glorious Axe 92 x 5 = 460 => best 2h

    War Spike 39 x 5 = 195
    Berserker Axe 47.5 x 5 = 237.5 => best 1h

    Ogre Maul 91.5 x 5 = 457.5
    Thunder Maul 106.5 x 4.1 = 436.7

    Great Poleaxe 86.5 x 5 = 432.5
    Giant Tresher 77 x 5 = 385

    Ghost Spear 86.5 x 3.5 = 302.8
    War Pike 105.5 x 3.1 = 327

    Archon staff 91 x 5 = 455

    Phase blade 33 x 5 = 165

    Colossus Blade 86.5 x 4.1 = 354.7

    In any way thunder maul or a phase blade can not be a good choice. Sorry for any spell mistakes, English is not my mother language.

    Thunder maul makes a good charger weapon and is a Hell of a lot cheaper than a Eth war pike, they are pretty hard to get for some people.

    Eth phase botd? sounds like a pretty dodgy weapon to me :scratch:

    And following calc for a pala

    Thunder Maul 106.5 x 4.1 = 436.7

    War Pike 105.5 x 5 = 527.5 => best 2h

    According to arreat summit they are both 20 base speed. so am i missing something

    I have my own method to calculate the damage of a weapon for one second,I'll post it later today
    yep,something wrong about war spike and thunder maul because both have range 5 and one 178 max and the other one 180 max

    Hmmm... maybe we could say that thunder maul is good "all-around" waepon, I mean it deals good damage for all characters/classes. Plus it has by default +50% damage to undead (I think this covers about 1/3 of all monsters in the game).

    I think that there are other points than damage which deserve to be taken into account while selecting a weapon. 3 examples:

    Champion Axe is faster than Glorious Axe, and its level requirement is lower.

    Phase Blade is less expensive than Berserker Axe, its level req is lower, its Strength req is much lower (25/138!), and it is also faster. On the other hand, Dex req is much lower on the Berserker Axe (136/59!).

    Ogre Maul is less expensive than Thunder Maul, its level req is 14 points lower, its strength req is lower, and it is faster (for Druids).

    I am not saying that those facts contradict your conclusions, just sometimes it is easier to use a faster weapon with lower requirements, even if it is less powerful.
