Want to run Hell Baal

Ok. I play hardcore, that is the first thing to consider. I am playing a fishymancer and will be entering hell in a few days - level 66 right now. What I want to do is run hell Baal. I am not too worried about my mid-level equipment. The only thing that worries me is the gloams. Do you guys think that maxing lightning resistance and wearing Thundergods will take care of my worries there?

I figure my resists will be pretty good except for lightning, which I will max. I know it will be a slow process and I will not wear a lot of MF equipment, I just want to be able to make Baal runs safely.

I'd strongly reccomend maxing Lightning Resist, but Dim Vision completely shuts them down if you are fast enough.

throwing out your clay golem around corners works really well, then you can know where to DV without doing the whole damn place, which isn't necessarily bad

You got great advice from all. Level up, max lightning resists, and use that dim vision and clay golem wisely. Also, you might want to diversify the curses you use in throne. Perhaps decrep instead of amp, or maybe attract if you feel like the tide is going against you and need a reprieve.

Lots of spot-on advice here. Just one small addition. You might want to consider "stacking" your light res. I run with about 125%. Although I can't prove it, I feel fairly certain that that was what saved me from a one-shot deeds on my one-and-only encounter with a Gloam with Conviction.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I will try & get to level 70 or so before I start hell and will try and make a few trades to get a little better equipment so that my life will be up around 1000 and my resists are good - lightning being maxed and wearing Thundergods when I face the gloams.

a nice piece of equipment that everyone wants to get rid of is the good ole Wizardspike. tons of resists and fcr and cheap. very nice in WSK. i'm sure it has saved me a number of times.

Even though I don't play HC, I'm very wary of dying during my self-hosted Baal runs (lvl 96). TGods and a healthy res make my nec laugh at gloams. I'd say my number one fear is a pack of Dolls, especially if there is a unique one in there with a nasty mod. Even though you can avoid them, your dum-dum Merc will poke one and blast you to oblivion
