Okay, I recently did some reserce on the internet & it turned out, that the black abyss & the void are not the same place... I always thaught that both are the same.

According to the following pages of a diablo wiki
http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Void
http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Abyss
the Black Abyss is the place where demon souls go, before they get reincarnated in the burning hells & the void is a place where nothing exists & where you can trap all sorts of souls in.

---

I read those article further & they mentioned that with the destructions of the soulstones in Diablo 2 & LoD, the souls of the prime evils Diablo, Mephisto & Baal got sucked into the BLACK ABYSS - not the void...

So I'm just wondering, when the demon lords' souls just got sucked into the black abyss, they could just simply reincarnate in hell - since they are not traped in the void.

So why all this efford in Diablo 2 to destroy the soulstones?
It basically changes nothing, it just buys some time until the demon lords will walk again...

Or do I miss something?

The fiction/lore is a little more precise than the games, where sequels and returns are mandatory. I guess to make it logical in the games you have to say that 1) the heroes couldn't leave the demons cruising around destroying things in Sanctuary, and 2) it takes the demons a while to reform and manifest a physical body again, etc. Kind of like Tyrael needing 20 years to get back on his feet after he destroyed the Worldstone and it destroyed him.
