Video game addiction, fact or myth?

Ok so it's not the best title, but I was never good with that, so I hope you can forgive me for that :girly:

Anyway today I read an article (a Norwegian one) about some people who said video game addiction is a word or expression which is missleading. There are some persons who have done some research on the subject of video game addiction, and what they found out is that it's not really an addiction to the game, but the persons lack of selfdiscipline or willpower. After reading the article and some discussion on it I've started to agree with this, since to me it makes sense. I won't deny people have problems caused by playing video games, but it's not the video game that's the blame (I.E. no addiction) but their ability to set boundries and to control themselves. But we should also be very carefull about where to draw the line. Obviously some people can play much more video games before it actually becomes a problem.

So is there anyone else who feel that video game addiction is something made up for lack off better understanding of a game or a better explenation for why some people choose to play as much as they want?

In my opinion people shouldn't tell others how to live their life, however when some people can't control it themselves they need help. Not with getting "rehab" from their "gaming addiction" but to get back in control over their own life. When you quite school/work just to play a game, someone needs to help you get back on the right track. But then there are some people who don't like to socialise with others. They'd rather stay at home and just live their own life. If they spend it playing games, who are we to say it's an addiction?

Anyway some discussion on this subject and others view on it is much appreciated!
