I'm currently running on an ATI Radeon 7500 >< and I'm looking to get better frames in unreal 2k4, i get about 20-30 right now, heres my setup

    AMD 1700+, 1.7 GhZ
    1024 MB of Ram
    ATI Radeon 7500
    Win XP

Is it worth it? My price range is only about 250 or less, so the card looks very promising, what do you guys think? People say that the core speed or something is more important then the memory speed? Someone clarify this? Thanks

very nice choice. Clock/RAM speeds on cards don't provide a good idea of real world performance so don't get too bothered about those. Go for it if you really need a new card.

is there any better options out there?

The ATI 9800 Pro and ATI 9600 XT look pretty tasty, is the XT better then the pro?

Well if your willing to wait a bit Nvidia and ATI are going to release their new flagship video cards soon. BUT if you can't wait I'd go with the 9800pro.

The XT is basicaly an overclocked version of the pro, and unless you can get one on the cheap theres no reason to spend the extra cash. Go with the pro.

Holy crap man, DON'T GET A RADEON! I got a radeon recently, and my old card just kicks this one's *** so badly, even though this is a RADEON 7500 and my old one was a TNT2 model 64.

    Please...just get nVidia...I beg you.

Certainly if you can afford it go for a R9800pro or GeForce FX5900 Ultra. But you also may want to consider updating your processor, if you want to get the maximum amount of performance from these highend GFX cards. If you can, try and get something in the way of a 2.2-2.4ghz processor, and your framerates will sore.

I did have a heap of bench tests somewhere.. My better half must of threw them out!!

Try this site, it might help with your decision.. http://www.guru3d.com/

What i do remember is, the XT series scored very highly; coming with a HL2 voucher is a bonus

I heard the XT series were just the originals but overclocked.

Before you get a 9800Pro, look into the 9800SE. I know a guy who just got one and softmodded it to be a 9800Pro. He only spent about USD150 on the card too.

The best thing I've seen in the sub-$100 range is the 9600. I just picked it up and installed this weekend, in fact.

It is, basically. Save the extra $ and get an overclock utility to jack up the 9800 pro. Or do like Gus said, it's pretty easy and it works.

And uh... I wouldn't slam Radeons in general because you don't like the 7500. That's an entry level card, while the 9800 is top of the line. I have a 9700 Pro and it's a beast, the 9800 is beast+1.

Yeah, I have an older 8500 model and by god its speedy, even for a card thats a few years old. And at least ATI does tend to have better benchmarking scores and less buggy drivers.

    Go with ATI.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

"I got an idea, let's base our opinion on VERY outdated cards, because obviously today's cards will be similar."

This is a noob-ish question, but how much better is a 9700 than a GeForce 3?

    Much, much better!!

the sucess rate of the modding is not very good <50%. If you got the money, then go for pro version outright.

    AHAHHAHHAHAAHHA...oh man
