Viable Pally build in SP?

Hi everyone!

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on a pally build. I'm just starting a single-player pally after playing bnet for so long (and finally gotten sick of it).

Most of the builds I've done on bnet were with real nice equipment mostly shared with my friend and I. Playing SP is going to be real new for me using mostly what I find (not the best or most-wanted items).

I'm going with the pally cause he's my favorite char. His name is Ezekiel and he's lvl 7 right now. I have no skill points allocated yet because I can't decide on a build.

My favorite skill I really want to use right now are:
Holy Bolt
Charge (spear/lance build)
Sanctuary
Sacrifice
Maybe a Ranger build with Holy shock

I realize those skills may not be possible in SP 1.10, especially in hell. To tell the truth, I haven't been in hell in ver 1.10, but the stories I'm reading are making me wonder if any of the builds I'm thinking of are going to make it. Not much crowd-control in the skills I listed above.

I'd love to mf in the mausoleum or the act 2 sewers in hell, but I don't know if I'll survive most of the game doing an undead killer in SP. (undead hunter - holy bolt & sanctuary sounds wicked cool)

I'm certainly not the best player, and doing the bnet stuff (being rushed, given items, etc.) has probably made me even a worse player. But I want to make this pally *THE* char of choice for me. Can someone please give me a slap on the butt in the right direction?? :)

The "Cleric" build seems to have the edge in dropping Undead, although HB is single-target. I hear 10k+ bolts on undead for little mana is good...

welcome to the SPF - you'll find it a warm place - full of friendly people and fluffy feelings :innocent:

Anyway, I hope you don't abandon multiplaying totally - we have a great MP thread with games posted all the time.

If you are going to try the cleric build (witch is a ton of fun) I recommend MP - it is heavily party dependent (but you will be able to kick Pindleskins rear around).

Don't forget ATMA - it is the single best tool the SPF community has for muleing items.

For your first SP build though, I recommend either the skellimancer or a hammerdin as both work pretty well Solo.

Have fun, and drink beer :buddies:

Ranger Holy Shock and cleric is what you're after...however, you could be a pseudo Zealot do get you into Hell,

5 pts Zeal (or +skills to lvl 5)
20 pts Fanatacism

the rest in stuff you like...

how about a holy ranger (or whatever the name is)
find some nice throwing item of some kind (daggers, javelins, bows, whatever does most base dmg as you wont have any specific skills for them) and max holy shock. with a HF merc, the monsters will die ok in nm as youll have plenty of time to attack with them chilled, and holy shcok will also have loads of time to kill off any undead. and since your only playing on going half way into hell, you wont need to worry about the uber dmg needed tokill past act 4 or all the ranged and elemental attacks of act 5.

I recommend the Frost Zealot (zeal and holy freeze being the mainstay of the build, boost sacrifice to synergice zeal's physical damage if you want, then whatever else you want). He won't do as much damage as a holy shock zealot, but he'll be a lot safer thanks to holy freeze slowing every enemy down. Another advantage is that since most of the damage will be from the holy freeze skill, all you need is a fast weapon to rock. A very nicely written guide can be found here:

Oh, and a cleaned-up version may be in the strategy compendium too; not sure though. Anyways, take a look and see if it tickles your fancy :)

edit: dammit, beat to the punch and now i sound like an echo :)

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who replied! This seems like a really friendly forum. Well, I'll research the builds everyone suggested. I did have a frost zealot on bnet, and he worked really well, but I was having problems starting in act 5 on nightmare. I started to notice some of the monsters weren't affected by holy freeze. *eek*

Running some stuff through my head these skills would blend nicely together:

Charge (mucho damage and synergy points in vigor as well)
Blessed Hammer (adds to holy bolt damage, and will be good on it's own from synergy points in vigor)
Holy Bolt (damage added from blessed hammer)
Vigor (synergy for BH and Charge)
Concentration (will add damage to Blessed hammer and charge *sweet*)

What do you think? I have only so many skill points, so I don't know if I can get damage way way up there for hell. Do I have a prayer for hell play?

I thought holy freeze even afffected cold immunes  ? How many pts. need to be in HF to affects them? (roughly)

As for the other builds- The synergies for blessed hammer have allowed for the ueber 'hammerdin' builds, a fav. with some of the MF crowd, and I would guess a pretty good undead hunter build. I'm not sure about charge, but I believe that chargers are doing ok (check out the pally forum, and be sure to read up on the build names, it gets confusing over there, and watch out as a lot of builds talked about are for PvP- check out the sticky at the top of both the SPF and the pally forums for build guides to check out). I think hammerdins tend to be less gear dependant, if that's an issue for you.

As for playing in hell- it seems to actually be all about resists anymore. if you can max those, you'll do ok with probably any of the synergized builds you're considering. I have a pure zealot that's dishing out 1.1K dmg on avg at this point (depending on the weapon), and he's doing ok (tanked and killed meph) but he dies from elemental dmg due to low resists at this point. Also, look for crushing blow, open wounds, etc mods on items if you go for a melee build, it will make a big difference.

just my 2cs

Some monsters just seem to be unfreezable. In 1.10 I've never seen an Undead Stygian Doll, Frozen Creeper or Death Lord (minotaur) be frozen... probably one or two more I've forgotten.

They will still take damage unless they are CI though.

wow, that's annoying. too bad I can't say the same, even with a 'cannot be frozen' mod (ravenfrost woo!)
