How does venom work with other poison damage like charms and such?

Venom lasts 0.4 secs tops, so all other poison damage would also last for that 0.4 secs. For example, if you had a 100pd over 5seconds charm, then only 8 damage from the charm will be added to your total poison dmg (in 0.4 secs only 8 from the charm takes its toll on your opponent before Venom cuts it off).
