Vengeance

What exactly is the damage added by Vengeance based on? The damage displayed by the weapon when hoovering over it, the physical damage listed in the character screen when the weapon is equiped or something else?

I'd assume that just like everything else it's based on the base damage of your weapon. Plus whatever "adds X-Y damage" items you have, like war travellers.

Note that this is different from the damage displayed when you hover the mouse over the weapon. (unless your weapon has no ED of it's own. ;) )

Hmm...are you saying that 100% Vengeance used from a Kingslayer Phase Blade only adds based on the 31-35 base damage from the blade, thus adding 31-35 fire, cold and lightning damage and not 115-129 (for a max %ed one) cold, fire and lightning damage?

All weapon damage is calculated in Vengeance, so whether it's ED% or +min/max doesn't matter as long as its on the weapon. In your example you would get the 115-129 fire, cold and lightning.

Off-weapon ED% like in pally shields or ED% jewels put in armor do not affect the Vengeance damage at all, but will improve your physcial damage.

+min/max jewels, war travelers, Sharp charms are all ways to improve your Vengeance damage outside the actual weapon.

Gosh, this is really confusing me. First, the ED on the weapon was different from ED elsewhere, then it is not again.

I thought it worked like:

get base dmg
multiply by 1.5 if it is ethereal
add + dmg from weapon stats (+5 min dmg from the sword)
multiply it by 1 + (weapon %ED)/100 (34% ED on the sword)
This is the damage displayed when you hover the mouse over the weapon
I guess this is the base damage for Vengeance
add other equipment +dmg (+5 max dmg in the armor)
multiply it by 1 + (other equipment %ED (50%ED on the shield) + stats %ED (156 STR = 171%ED for a maul + skills %ED (zeal or fanaticism ED))/100
if something is wrong, it must be the last line. I don't know if, for example, Zeal dmg bonus adds or multiplies to Fanaticism dmg bonus

Edit: beated and corrected! I will also test the charm thing.

I will test the vengeance thing this weekend and end up with a final answer!

I didn't think so, but then again I'm not very good at explaining things. :p

Vengeance damage gets calculated from:
Weapon damage (ED% and/or +min/max)
Off-weapon +min/max items (like damage charms, jewels, and war travelers)

Vengeance does not get boosts from:
Off-weapon ED% (like pally shields with ED% or jewels with ED%)
Strength
Auras (Fanaticism, Might, Concentration)


So +min/max items will always boost Vengeance, while ED% will only boost Vengeance if it's on the weapon.

That sounds right since Vengeance would fall into the skill ED%. Of course just getting a big hurty weapon, using Conviction (or Fanaticism), and smacking away should remove any enemy-related problems an Avenger has :)

This is for an Enchantress, actually =) I'm trying to get a feel for the balance between Passion, Kingslayer, Djinn Slayer and Azurewrath. Of course the exact amount of elemental damage involved is a huge factor, but Attack Rating bonuses and attack speeds are also of importance.

Yep, my Avenger using an upgraded Ribcracker agrees with you completely. :D
