=P

In all seriousness tho, I dated a vegetarian for a while. Whenever we ate together, I always ate vegetarian. It honestly wasn't that bad, and I didn't lose any weight or feel weak or anything. Of course I also ate meat when I wasn't with her at like lunch and stuff. But it seemed relatively healthy and didn't taste that horrible. The only thing I didn't like was it was hard to eat out, which I enjoy.

Re: Vegetarianism

being a veg. is unhealthy. my mother tried it, seemed fine for about a year, then she started getting tired and weak all the time. lack of iron and protein i guess. sure you can do veg. right, but most people don't know how to sub their meat

Re: Vegetarianism

Eating both vegetables and meat is the healthiest way to go.

They say that red meat will kill you but it won't. Grey meat might kill you. Now if you're one of the few people lucky enough to get your hands on a real steak you should bite the **** out of it.

You can be a healthy vegetarian, certainly protein isn't the issue (egg whites, fish, legumes, dairy, etc). Iron isn't too bad either, baked beans are very good, eggs muesli rice etc too. It's not ideal though and is generally more expensive, quorn anyway. I guess more widespread enthusiam for enhanced deference for animals rights will be a distant next step on the moral progression of Western society. Compare the sanctity of the life of a grown pig with 2 week old collection of cells with the potential to become a human.

I like my steaks oozing blood, personally. Nothing like a nice rare tornado rossini.

A lot of vegetarians eat fish, yes. You may prefer to call fish-eating vegetarians semi-vegetarians... context being everything.

I find the people who won't eat anything an animal aided to produce silly. No honey, because it exploits bees. Ditto on dairy.

Lisa: Oh, the earth is the best! That's why I'm a vegetarian.
Jesse: Heh. Well, that's a start.
Lisa: Uh, well, I was thinking of going vegan.
Jesse: I'm a level 5 vegan -- I won't eat anything that casts a shadow.

How about half arsed vegetarians?

I can buy that someone does'nt eat meat because they don't want to harm animals but to eat fish is worse than eating all kinds of meat because that's saying that animals are really important except for fish who somehow doesn't matter and the sheer ignorance of it is just laughable.

I believe that the highest level of vegan is that you don't eat anything that involves killing the whole plant. Like potatoes and carrots.

IMO the most extreme are the ones that expand their habits from eating to everything, apologizing to the grass once they've walked over it...

I don't think there's any serious vegan culture like that. At best it's a very rare nut job and someone doing it as satire.

Re: Vegetarianism

I just don't get some veggies, the ones that say they find it sickening to eat something that used to live i understand, but the ones that don't because animals don't eat us i don't. Man was made to eat animals, we evolved because of this.
about the fish, perhaps they aren't cute enough to be spared so that makes it ok to eat them

Re: Vegetarianism

what about insects and all those not-really-animals?
can we eat them, because they aren't cute and cuddly?

Re: Vegetarianism

As far as not killing animals, we'd all be better off just killing the occasional cow, instead of harvesting plants with tractors - that kills a much higher number of animals (just smaller ones.)

While growing up (teens) one of the kids chores was each of us (3 kids) had to cook for 1 week out of 4, when my sister decided to go vegetarian that meant we all did for 1 week out of 4, it's not that big a deal but you need to watch for balance in the diet and amino acids more.

Re: Vegetarianism

I could live with being a vegetarian, but not with being a vegan. If you take out meat then you need eggs, cheese, milk and so on even more.

vegetarians can eat fish?
Vegetarians eat a lot of things that aren't vegetables. Even some vegans eat fish, I think.

Re: Vegetarianism

if you take out all that, you would need your nutrition injected or something...

... or make yourself a nutrition-shake
