Hello my favorite online community I come to you for guidance My hydra sorc in the Committed Tournament is going quite well, and I've been saving up dozens of chipped gems with the goal of rerolling orbs. I'm super confused though, as it looks like this recipe sets the ilvl to 25. How, then, does the game decide what affixes can spawn? Basically, I'm wondering if the following is possible. Assume a vortex orb - qlvl 84 Can I use the recipe to theoretically spawn something with +3 fire skills and +3 hydra? Thanks!

Chippie reroll gives ilvl 25, so the base tier is 4. From there it has a 20% to make it to Tier 5, where lvl 24 skills are, but Hydra is a Tier 6 skill. So no go. Thanks @helvete for the correction. Then, the +3 fire skills affix on a vortex orb. Vortex orb qlvl of 84 is higher than the ilvl 25 from the chippies recipe, so for affixes, ilvl becomes 84. Then add the magic level (1, found on arreat summit), for ilvl85. 85 times 2 is 170, minus 99 gives an alvl of 71. +3 Fire (Volcanic) is alvl 60. Lvl 30 skills are in tier 6, not tier 5. So no, it isn't possible, even with the flawless/normal gem rerolls. Items with magic_level (orbs, circlets, etc) bypass the ilvl/qlvl calculation and their alvl = ilvl+magic_level

Only circlets have magic_lvl of more than 1. Orbs and rods (except elite wands due to a bug most likely) have 1, while circlets have 3, coronets 8, tiaras 13 and diadems 18.

Recipe should still be very interesting for LS assassins though. Runic Talons can get +3 traps if I'm not mistaken.

I think staff mods are done a bit differently than normal mods I found it faster just going in and out of Anya's portal to reroll claws for my +3 traps/+3 LS claws. Still took forever though. Can't imagine doing that with the cube.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, I can spawn lvl 24 staffmods, but affixes only up to alvl 26, which means that only +1 fire skills can spawn I could still use this to make a +4 enchant stick, but that's about the only reason I would do this now. I'll have to think of another use - perhaps for a mercenary weapon. Thanks guys

it would be, but this line if (qlvl>ilvl) then {ilvl=qlvl} sets it to 84 for affix generation then the 1 magic level is added, so 85. if (magic_lvl>0) then {alvl=ilvl+magic_lvl} if (ilvl<(99-qlvl/2)) then {alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2} 85 is not less than (99-42), so we go to here else {alvl=2*ilvl-99} alvl=2*85-99=71 71 is higher than the 60 required for Volcanic, so it can spawn.

But I thought that if they have a magic_lvl, they bypass the qlvl calculation. Maybe I'll just try it with a high level orb and see what comes out

True, items with magic_lvl uses its magic_lvl+ whatever is highest of ilvl and qlvl to get the alvl. Which is why diadems are always eligible for any affix even at ilvl 1
