[USESCL] Wide World of Harry Potter - PvP/Ladder League!...Idea tossing!!
To begin...
Three Cheers for Potter!
So now that A. the Ladder has settled down, B. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is in theaters (great movie, by the way!), and that C. Harry meets his fate in T-minus 10 days, I felt it necessary to begin a PvP/Ladder league based on Harry Potter.
Here's what I had considered at this idea's conception:
-Two camps: Order of the Phoenix / Hogwarts Wizards (I may condense, but the side of "good" isn't all of Order of the Phoenix, some are important characters that are simply "Hogwarts Wizards"), and the obvious Death Eaters.
-I might not use this idea, but I thought a "Harry Potter" ladder might be a nice idea, which means NO MULING, UNTWINKED PARTY PLAY, and whoever reaches the top first (lvl85, I would think, should be enough) wins...something. Bragging rights, at least.
-At this lvl85, would kick in the PvP league. The problem with running the ladder is that PvP setups suck with untwinked play. There would be a point system based on wins/losses in team PvP play (4v4, 3v3, sometimes 1v1 e.g. Dumbledore vs. Voldemort), somewhat coinciding based on events in the novel (e.g. fight in the Ministry would take place at Trav or Throne). For those events that have more than 8 participants, it seems to be worthwhile to consult the novels in an effort to divide them into multiple games, in some sort of reasonable manner.
-For those of the younger "generation" I thought that putting a lower level cap on them (e.g. 75 compared to 85) may be worthwhile to consider to make the whole "generation gap" more apparent, though 10 points might not make much of a difference.
Things I'm pretty certain about:
-15 on each side. This seems to be a radical amount at first, but it seems to be practical, as not everyone can be on at once, so in that lens it seems to be a nice number to work with.
-Team leaders - Dumbledore and Voldemort. For obvious reasons.
-For the sake of identifying characters and members, tags corresponding to "allegiance" (OotP, HW, or DE) will be part of their names (e.g. HW-Neville or OotP-Moody). Last names only will probably be used, but the lists below list full names (or as much as I know :hide: )
-They have to be characters in the book *duh*. The builds have to suit the character. No, you CANNOT be Hermoine as a WW barb. In addition, for the sake of character depth and general access, if a character died in the series of (soon to be) seven books, they can be used.
-As part of your "side" you have a relative sort of obligation to help out your teammates when it comes to furbishing characters for the PvP aspect of this...idea.
Here are my tentative character lists. I also included some ideas as to possible character builds that could work in [] (If I didn't know, I just left ?? in there). Input would be greatly appreciated:
OotP/HW:
Dumbledore (leader) [Mage?]
Harry Potter [Hammerdin or Zealot]
Rubeus Hagrid [WW barb]
Ron Weasley [Fist of the Heavens?]
Hermione [Light sorc]
Ginny Weasley [Fire sorc]
Luna Lovegood [Cold sorc]
Cedric Diggory [Zealot or Smiter]
Weasely Twins (one character) [??]
Neville Longbottom [Liberator]
Remus Lupin [Wolf, Fury? Fireclaws/Rabies Hybrid?]
Sirius Black [??]
Alastor Moody [Bonemancer]
Nymphadora Tonks [Trapsin? Ghost?]
Firenze [Summoner Druid]
DE:
Voldemort (leader) [Bone/Poisonmancer?]
Lucius Malfoy [Poisonmancer]
Draco Malfoy [Daggermancer]
_____ Crabbe Sr. [Zmiter]
_____ Crabbe Jr. [Frenzy Barb]
_____ Goyle Sr. [Zmiter]
_____ Goyle Jr. [Frenzy Barb]
Peter Pettigrew [??]
_____ Macnair [Axe WW Barb]
Igor Karkaroff [Fire druid]
Bellatrix Lestrange [Trapsin]
Barty Crouch Jr. [Bonemancer]
Fenrir Greyback [Wolf - Fury/Rabies hybrid]
Golgomath [Mace barb - e.g. IK barb]
Dementor (I felt it necessary to include them, and they don't really have a unique leader they're just...one thing) [??]
We will probably be needing a couple of people to mediate, but hopefully that won't be necessary with a little bit of trust around here.
Also if this idea does fly, characters will be chosen later, and PvP rules will be set there (as the nature of this PvP league, two sides against each other, merits certain extra rules peculiar to itself).
So, after the long read, I hope that 1. this sounds like a decent idea, 2. people will want to do it, and 3. people will want to leave some feedback to make it work!
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any all all participation in this...I guess...project of mine.
