Uses and socketables for a 3os Tomb Reaver?

Hey all, as I posted in the IFT, my first ever self-found Tomb Reaver rolled 3os and pretty good on the other stats.

Code:
Tomb Reaver
Cryptic Axe
Two-Hand Damage: 117 to 534
Durability: 45 of 65
Required Dexterity: 103
Required Strength: 165
Required Level: 84
Polearm Class - Fastest Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: **
Fingerprint: 0x959bb777
+256% Enhanced Damage
All Resistances +37
75% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
+14 Life after each Kill
+4 to Light Radius
60% Increased Attack Speed
158% Damage to Undead
+259 to Attack Rating against Undead
10% Reanimate As: Returned
Socketed (3: 0 used)
I've always understood that this is one of the best unique weapons in the game, so I'd like to put it to use. However, the two builds that immediately come to mind, a WW Barb and Fury Druid, are both builds that I have done in both 1.09 and 1.13. My 1.13 builds already use some top-notch weapons - dual Grief PBs for the Barb and a 299% Ribcracker for the Druid.

So, are there any other builds that would make this weapon shine? And, what are the best socketables for somebody that doesn't have 3xRJoF?

Thanks for your feedback.

You don't need 3x RJoF. You need two and an Ohm/Lo :p

And since it's not an Eth one, no need to go crazy on the RJoF. Something around ~30ed/each should do the trick :)

Yeah, I would really like to know this too. I haven't actually seen a cool build made out of one of those.

Sorry for the belated response there RobbyD, it just took me hours to whipe up the drool from off my floor!

Man.. now thats a WEAPON of mass destruction! Daddy like longtime! Very very nice! ...*long pause* I forget that such powerful weapons can be found in our beloved game. Inspiration no doubt for me to grind my happy *** off! Just curious there Robby, where did you come across that? I gather you found it on 1.13, was it a random drop or did you farm it from a boss? Regardless, I cant wait to see what use you find for it. Please, share what you decide to do. Its good to see you still tearing it up though. I wanted to e-mail you other day but I am having trouble with my password on hotmail. Life is good for me and I just got back into Diablo 2 not long ago. Really pissed, 2 nights ago my laptop fried and I didnt backup my level 47 druid to my flashdrive, nor the 100's hours or so of my barbarian had under his belt farming mephy! I lost ALOT of stuff.. My last backup for my barbarian was from like October last year at level 81. I was up to level 83 nearing 84 when my laptop crapped. I found some really good uniques over that time :( sad face 10 times.

I am back at it though, just using my frenzy barb and I decided to change mercs lastnight to the NM Holy Freeze. Just running around Act 2 on P8 leveling my merc for now. Though to my surprise I am finding lots of flawless gems along with lots of lower level runes, so its not a complete wash leveling my merc for now. I will tackle the druid again soon enough as it was so fun, though after reading about MC Snail.. I think I want to play around with a poisonmancer now! Thanks for your contributions! Its what keeps me checking the SPF daily, even if I don't respond. I love this place and am constantly learning new things here. Oh real quick, I am moving to Arkansas in a month bro. Maybe someday we can host a Diablo 2 party IRL since we will be neighbors practically! Haha. Just food for thought! Take care dear friend!

-zero! (^_^)

@ZeroAffex - good to hear from you. I got in from 1.13 Hell CS - Infector of Souls. I've been running that with my Poisonmancer on /P8 with very few problems.

So a FireClaws Maul Bear is the consensus? That's an interesting build I have not considered. How about as a Wolfbarb weapon? Does the Polearm speed bonus apply to a WolfBarb?

Fireclaws Werebear. Oh wait, that was already said.
Thing is though there is probably no better use for 3os Tomb reaver. With 3 shael TR you hit 5fpa fireclaws which is pretty insane. The only other way to get that much speed or more is to put a bunch of shaels a phase blade but then that thing has no physical dmg meaning no leech and not able to kill FIs.

It is the one build for which the TR is arguably the best weapon, though still grief/Phoenix is just as good or better ( what I remember from my Pat. , can't be bothered to dig out the thread link ) . Twinking weapon would probably be shael'd ribby -> upped. ( Or you can go for fire spells caster - that doesn't interfere with the build at all as those are synergies. )

I think wolf barb is too slow with it if I remember correctly. And in any case he has much more interesting equipment choices ( like grief/beast ).

Don't forget about the chargadin! It's an underpowered, but REALLY fun build. And this weapon will rock for it. You don't need AIS in the sockets, either.

While it has been said that pretty much the only builds worth using this on are a WW Barb, Charge Pally or a melee Druid, this also makes for one of the best Act 2 Merc weapons as well. Unless you are rocking a hardcore ethereal runeword already, I'd go for it.

Since its already pretty fast on them, for now I would just put a bunch of Dol runes in it for massive life leech and make him extra hard to kill. Once you find better things for it, you can always Hel them out when you want to get some better runes in there.

If not IAS/Damage jewels, Ohm/Ohm/Lo would make it extra awesome.

how bout a bearzon or a 2hd avenger?

u probably won´t find a build where the TR wouldn´t be beaten by a runeword but they can still be done nevertheless

Dol adds "hit causes monster to flee 25%". You probably mean Amn.

And, what are the best socketables for somebody that doesn't have 3xRJoF?
As a cheap setup, I would add a mix of Shael and Amn runes, depending on how much IAS and leech you are still lacking. Regarding IAS, max speed WW needs just 10% IAS in addition, so a single Shael or a not too expensive IAS/xx jewel would be enough. Regarding leech, a melee character with a two-hander will suffer 4 times as much damage from blockable weapon attacks as one who has a shield (assuming max blocking for any melee build with a shield), so a bit more leech is certainly a good idea.

Regarding expensive socketings like Ohm, Lo and Ber and a nice IAS/xx jewel, it depends on how many other sources of CS and CB you already have, apart from the IAS question mentioned before.

I don't think that a barb would need a Jah rune for ITD. Only bosses are not that easy to be hit by them and ITD doesn't work versus bosses anyway.

So, are there any other builds that would make this weapon shine?
I guess I would make a WW barb. It doesn't need expensive runes, so you can still change your mind later without loss.

I use a 3 soc with 3 x Shaels for a Fire Claw bear. It hits the second fastest IAS possible, and rocks even on P8.

I'm thinking it's best for a FC Mauler, but when I started planning out a FC Mauler, the skill distribution confounded me. Seems I'm like 40 points short.
