USA goes soft on hijackers

So they found a guy smuggling a loaded handgun onto a plane. Not a box cutter, not a Leatherman tool, not a dangerous pair of nail clippers, but a freaking 9mm Glock.

They questioned him a little bit and then let him get on the next flight. It's not even clear whether they confiscated the gun.

He's walking around in Washington D.C. right now, a free man.

Has America gone soft on terror?

 story

This offends and disgusts me. A Homeland Security Republican with a 9 mm? How's he going to take out terrorists at 500 m with that?

I'm curious as to how he forgot that a loaded gun was in his luggage. The airport should have at least maintained some standard form of treatment by at least holding him for a while. Or the security could have tackled him to the floor and tasered him a bit. Either way.

Of course he didn't forget. He's a politician. He just can't "recall" that it was there.

I thought they did hold him for awhile. I think he should have been arrested though.

Like they did with Joe Foss??

I honestly don't see the issue here. People need to 'think outside the box' about what can be used as a weapon.

Welcome to America where if you are a white male politician, you can virtually walk free even if the offense happens to be carrying a gun to an airport.

Now, imagine if that man happened to be African-American or someone who looks like someone from the Middle East.

Wow, I can't say this often but that actually kinda pisses me off. I've flown out of Louisville International before and I got stopped and searched because my ****ing walkman batteries died and it wouldn't play when they asked me to show it working.

"ADDUUURR I DIDN'T KNOW THE GUN WAS IN MY BAG I'M SORRY"

"Ok, sir. Enjoy your flight. Don't forget your extra-capacity pre-ban magazines next time."

So that's what that is. I thought it was a mug shot of a dust bunny. :)

Now I'm confused.

Are you saying that a walkman that doesn't happen to have fresh batteries are a bigger threat than a Glock?

Or do you mean that every pair of tweezers(sp) that you happen to carry must be checked that they don't have a sharp point you can kill the pilot with?

If it really is this serious, why don't the airport people start to ban plastic bags(easily suffocate the pilot), single objects that weigh over 2Kg(bludgeoning) and things that fit snugly into a balled fist(effective punching).

I can already imagine it...
*I walk through the metal detector and continue on my way happily*
Airport officer: Hey you stop right there!
Me: What the hell...
*officer bludgeons me to the ground for resisting a legal search and calls for backup*
Officer: You are wearing shoes that weigh more than the restrictions allow, thus you will be charged with attempted assault, the attempted manslaughter of over 200 people and insulting an official. Anything you say can be and will be...
Me: You can take the shoes if they bother you that much.
Officer: The damage has already been done and you shall face the consuquences(sp). If you can't afford a lawyer....
Me: Actually... I forgot I was wearing these boots, I thought I was wearing sandals and was just wondering why my feet were so hot...
Officer: Oh... Thats allright then...
*helps me up and removes the handcuffs*
Officer: The restrooms are just around the corner. You can change you're outfit to suit the new regulations there.
Me: Paranoid smacktard!
Officer: Glad to be able to help you. Have a nice flight!
