Upping non-uniques/rares?

I have only seen cube recipes for upping (Normal -> Exceptional; Excep -> Elite) Uniques or rares. Is there any way to up magic, white, or socketed items?

There's also this formula (it's not really upping, but it also makes the item better from a certain point of view) :

White items can be upgraded in quality (from crude to normal quality to be precise), using this formula :

1 eld rune + 1 chipped gem + low quality weapon = normal quality weapon of same type.

1 el rune + 1 chipped gem + low quality armor = normal quality armor of same type

The new item gets ilvl = 1, that is, regardless of what the ilvl was beforehand, it will be set to 1.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, for example if you need a 3socket Phase Blade for Crescent Moon you can always take a Low Quality Phase "upgrade it" and bring it to Larzuk. Max amount of sockets for ilvl 1 Phase Blades is 3 so it can save you some time if that's what you're looking for. :azn:

Yes, and this particularity is even more commonly used to get 3-sockets elite armors  !

It's also the only way to get low level staffmods on elite items. If you want stuff like tiger strike on a claw, raise skeleton/mastery on a necro head, or sword mastery on a barb helm, that is...

Indeed, there is an excellent explanation of this in the SPF stickies: Uzziah's Guide to Altering Items In Game, which covers the relevant issues. The creating low-ilvl items section is oriented to getting low tier skills on elite assassin claws, but it also applies to other staffmods as well. The root of the problem is that elite items have ilvls when they drop that are too high to have any chance of getting Tier 1 staffmods, so to get desirable first tier staffmods you can use cube recipes to reduce the ilvl.

I've read this thread a long time ago, but it won't hurt to read it again to refresh my memory. There's some very nice ideas in there for sure  !
