    Upgrading items

    Few questions about upgrading items:

What does it mean to upgrade items? How does it work? How do you do it? Is there any risk in upgrading an item? Can you upgrade uniques?

    Re: Upgrading items

Upgrading an item means converting the item to the equivalent item in the next level of items - ie. Normal -> Exceptional -> Elite. A Belt for instance is turned into a Mesh Belt and a Mesh Belt into a Mithril Coil.
It is a recipy in the Horadric cube - you place the item and 2 runes and a perfect gem in the cube and press transmute. Very easy to do.
All stats on the item remains. A String of Ears demonhide sash will be upgraded to a String of Ears spiderweb sash. All properties of the item remains - only the base (which in most cases means defence or damage) will be changed.
There is no risk whatsoever in upgrading items. Just be careful and check the requirements of the upgraded item beforehand - this ensures that you have the neccessary level, strength, dex etc. to actually use it.
All non-elite uniques can be upgraded. All non-elite yellow items can be upgraded. No white, blue, orange or green items may be upgraded.

Here is a list of recipies for the cube: linky.
