It depends on base defense and on which paladin type will get it.

A HoZ is a gilded shield (def 144-168) which will become a zakarum shield (def 169-193), so with bad luck, the base defense will rise by just 1.

If you want to give it to a melee paladin, it may be worth upgrading it (see above), else no IMO. The new strength req is 142 and that would be far beyond the strength a hammerdin typically has, for example.

well my din is a zealot with 293 strengt iirc, so the worst thing that could happen is that the defense would raise by just 1?.. what happens to the smite dmg then?

    regards,

From 20 - 28 to 46 - 46. It might change to 46-47 though, because of the min dmg being equal to max dmg.

Since all HOZ shiels have a base def of 169, it has that very small chance that the def doesnt go up at all. The only really good thing about upgrading it is the smite damage which becomes pretty much the same on average as all elite pally shields. (but with unbeatable stats.)

Defense aside, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute and upgrade any HoZ I can get my hands on. Simply put, it's the best all around pally shield and it's an awsome smiter shield.

Sorry, recipe to upgrade an exceptional(right?) shield to elite is what???

Does that count as armor and is therefore LEM+KO recipe?

Yea shields count as armors. I'd get a 190+ edef and upgrade that one though........

i had a 190 for a smiter that i upgraded ... it stayed the exact same def, and its almost impossible to trade, its definatly not worth it, but if you want one then im sure you can trade yours for a up'd one already, and get something else too, since upgraded hoz's are worth less than non-up'd ones (on west ladder)

imo its not a good idea to up any hoz, if its for smite, then trade your hoz for a high end up'd hoz + something, ive seen ppl trying to trade a 200% up'd hoz for a 150% norm hoz on west

I'd say don't bother for anything other than a Smiter.

Defense will barely rise, the stats will remain the same, only the strength req. will go up that much further.

Combined with the Runes you'll have to pay I just don't think it's worth it.
