Upgrading Baal Charms

From my understanding you can "upgrade" the charms dropped from Baal.

Is this for all (ladder non-ladder) and does it work for small, large and grand?

I've looked for a recipe but can't find one.

Any help appreciated.

I dont know what your definition of "upgrading" is but if your talking about if you can cube a small charm into a large and large into a grand no you cant do that. For rerolling baal charms, i guess someone could say upgrading as in making the charm alot better by rerolling the charm in the cube with 3 perfect gems and getting some really good dual mods. "Upgrading" or better known as "rerolling" can be done both ladder and non, but if you want to upgraded unique armors and weapons and i think rares are also included in that group you can only do that on ladder.

grand charms found in later NM or anywhere in hell can be rerolled with + skill.

rerolling baal charms is due to the fact that only baal and nihlatak have high enough lvl for the biggest elemental damage modifiers on charms.

Another reroll benefit is the possibility of a Vita suffix on a GC containing 41-45 life. Making some really nifty skill charms.

Edit: To be clear, Baal and Nihlithak can only make a 41-45 life GC, Vita suffix found elsewhere has a max of 40 life.

Last question - can it be ANY charm from Baal? We got a crappy one from Baal - rerolled it about 4 times (got crappier each time) and then gave up - this was a 32 defense grand charm to start with.

The ilvl of the charm (dunno what the i stands for) doesn't change when you roll it. There will be times when you roll a crap mod, just like you roll 1s and 2s when you roll dice.

You're ideally looking for the best prefix and suffix TOGETHER on the same roll, so, people go through mules full of pgems doing this.

It can be ANY charm from HELL BAAL or HELL Nihlathak. Charms dropped by HELL diablo are also ilvl 94 (thereabouts), so they make good rolling material as well.

im quite sure nilathik has been lowered to around 92 or 93 in 1.10.. this is not high enough for any of the 4 high elemental dmg preffixs

only hell baal can really make flamming shocking and hibernel sc's

Both hell Diablo and hell Baal can make pestilent sc's

ilvl = item level
alvl = affix level

the alvl of pestilent is ** wich means a sc must have an ilvl of 94 or higher. diablo 94

How do you do that? :scratch:

1..Add grand charm and three perfect gems (any kind, including skulls if you want) to horadric cube.

2..Prostrate your self on ground. Light candles. Make obeisence to the Pagan Gods of The Grand Masters of the Horadric Cube Brethern, and hope like crazy.

3..Click the Transmute button on the cube.

For faster results skip step 2.

It could take many many tries before you get the +skill grand charm. I have "cubed" many charms but not gotten much good yet. It is important to get the highest ilvl (item level) charm u can find*

Normal armors can be upgraded to excpetional armors in non ladder, but they can't be ungraded to elite. At least that's what I think it is. Havn't gotten a chance to upgrade that Rattlecage for my merc yet...

So that means if I have a elemental gc from baal and I put it into the cube with 3 pgems, does that change the gc altogether making it a new gc at that ilvl?

Here's an example: I once got a crappy small charm drop from Hell Baal (stats were something like 2 to mana). I re-rolled it about 30 times before I got a 7%mf/5% resist-all charm...well worth the wait!

It just takes patience and possibly a lot of perfect gems.

it didnt really need to be from hell baal to get 7mf and 5 all resist, you could have used any sc found in hell to get 7mf/5all resist.

Yes, Nihlathak's Mlvl has been lowered to Mlvl 92, but he's still a unique Nihlathak so he gets +3 to his Mlvl.

He's Mlvl 95 in hell (1.10).

It won't matter. Your Character lvl isn't used in the item lvl calculations.
