Upgrade my HoZ

Ok, First I'm non-ladder on US West, I've noticed that alot of characters have shields that look transparent and glow. I figured they had a certian unique shield I wanted until I asked to see one and found that they had the same shield I had, A Hoz. So, my question is, Has thier shield been upgraded and if so how.

Yes, I have read the hordiac page on transmuting items. Yet reading that, It seems that only a ladder character can upgrade exceptional or unique weapons and armor. I also assume that belts, shields, gloves, helms and boots all fall under the upgrade recipie of armor.

I'm looking for some help and hope the answer I get is... Yup, you can upgrade your shield no problem and it will look just like the others.

But an explanation as to why I can upgrade and not be on ladder would be a better answer for me.

Thanks for looking and responding if you do.

the Hoz the other guy's had was etheral, thats what make they look transparent.

And yes the armor recipe includes gloves, boots, belts, etc

You may also be looking at a Paladin with Holy Shield cast. I made this mistake when I first started playing this game about 3 years ago. For 6 months I wondered which unique shield was shaped like a white cross, lol.

Haha, I made this mistake too, a long time ago before I even started playing pally's. Once I made my first hammerdin I was like "Ooohhhh, that's what it was!"

note that upgrading exceptional uniques to elite uniques (in this case it involves HoZ) is a ladder only runeword. So it won't work on nonladder or single player.

It does work on single player.
