Unholy Paladin

My Idea for an Unholy Paladin.

Stay with me now, it's a Paladin that doesn't use auras at all. Now I know this may sound stupid/tricky/difficult but I think I may give it a go. Since I mainly play Necromancers, I am not very well versed in the Paladin ways but I have tinkered and dabbled a bit.

As I look through the Combat Skills tree I see that most of them use synergies from auras. This brings me to my first option, do I:
A. Put points into auras and trust myself not to activate them, or
B. Put no points into auras and just use combat skills solely.

Now if I go the first route I can use things pretty much everything. I think my best options would be Vengence, Charge, and Zeal.
For route B, my options become limited to Zeal, Smite, and Conversion.

I think that mixing the two routes works best. The main skills should be Zeal and Vengence, putting points into Resist Fire, Lightning, and Cold and putting points into Sacrifice. That way I get the synergy bonuses and lets face it, the three Resist auras are pretty dule. Now I know that Salvation could be better because it raises all three but I think that the aura is too tempting.
Lastly on skills, since this is an Unholy Paly, I am not gonna use any of the "holy" skills. So no Hammers, Bolts, or special Shield for me.

So as a draft for skills:
20 Zeal
20 Vengence

20 Sacrifice
20+ Resist Fire/Lightning/Cold

As a note, the shield-bashing Smite could replace Zeal if need be.

Stats are the usual, enough Strength and Dexterity for equipment, zero Energy, and the rest into Vitality.

Equipment...well untwinked is what I am thinkin' right now. Anything with Crushing Blow, Increase Attack Speed, Faster Hit Recovery, Resistences, Open Wounds, etc, etc.
Twinked (just some ideas to throw around since I don't really twink out characters, and I'm poor):
Weapon: Botd (duh!), Baranar's Star, Cresent Moon, Schaefer's Hammer
Shield: HoZ, SS
Helm: Crown of Ages, Crown of Thieves, Rockstopper
Armor: Guardian Angel, Templar's Might
Gloves: Dracul's Grasp, Laying of Hands, Blood Gloves
Boots: Gore Riders, Govlin Toe, War Travs
Belt: Arachnid Mesh, String of Ears
Rings: Ravenfrost, Wisp Projector, SoJ, BKW
Ammy: Mara's, Rare uber l33t Paly ammy

I think that covers everything. Tell me what you think, whether I am crazy/stupid/ballsy/leet/go back to the Necroforums kid.

I think ure gonna have a hard time in hell :) , cool idea thoug .... i can just imagine the comments in Baalruns :p

non aura pally?

i have 1 idea of non aura pally

avenger who maxed dfensive aura synergies but dont activate them ..then coupled with charge so ur pally can chase ppl... may or may not b viable in pvp (i think full synergy avenger would be like a beserker but then i dunno for sure)

full synergy avenger would do 400%dmg added or more per elemental attacks

I really just don't get the idea of a combat only pally. This seems like a combat only barb.. It seems so weird ot have auras maxxed and not have them on, ever. Kinda cool and yet, is it really that bad to have max cold res or something!?

i meant using necessary synergy for vengeance and the resist aura to boost vengeance dmg

left click vengeance rite click charge i guess :scratch:

Well, the whole point to making an Unholy (auraless) Paladin is to give yourself a challenge in playing, like a Meleemancer or MA Amazon. The auras I'm suggesting to max are for synergies only, and lets face it, not many people actually use the three resist auras.

Anyways...

I think I am definitly going to use Vengence as my main skill, on the left button, with either Zeal or Smite on the right. The reason I don't use Charge is due to the fact that its synergies are two auras that are way to tempting to use. And if I did put points into them, I would just make a Charger anyways.

Zeal's only synergy is Sacrifice, which could also be a back up skill for its crazy damage. But the main reason for not using that skill is the same reason for not using Charge. Its is possible to get a crazy-fast Zeal, by using items, but this Paladin is now way as effective as a Zealot.

Smite, which always hits, does fairly good damage, with a low-mana cost, makes a good backup skill. Although no Holy Shield means its a bit weaker...oh well :p.

As a reminder, although no one else has to follow this rule, I am not using the "holy" spells. No Holy Bolt, Blessed Hammer, Conversion, Holy Shield, or FoH, unless they are pre-reqs.

I think that's it. I'll start using this guy after I finish my Boner. I'll report back my results after I get through with him.
