Unfinished Character Syndrome

Hello, fellas. My name is Zenigma, and I have UCS. So I've been experiencing... issues. I have right now maybe around 10 characters that are sufficiently through the game that I can see myself beating hell with them, but I lack the motivation to complete them. The characters are extremely fun to play too (Throw Barb and BF Sin, I'm looking at you guys in particular here). So what I'm wondering is: Does anyone else experience this issue? Any tips to make the thought of completing the game with these characters more appealing? I don't want to respec these guys; I don't feel like the respec function is in the spirit of the game, except for when it's used to rectify having misplaced stat and/or skill points.

Join the club. I have about 40 or so characters on the main screen (most in Normal). I have a sept thread that I haven't worked on in ages, and a Blizzballer still in Act I Hell.

Oh, I know that feeling. I actually have so many characers "in progress" that I keep a list of all of them and where exactly they are in the game and what level they are at. I use a word document and everything. I like to think of it as variety. Constantly working on one specific character at a time doesn't appeal to me so if I get tired of one, I look at my list and determine what would be a good change for my next play session, and then break that character out, progress some, and then go on to the next. They all get done eventually, but they all ulitmately stall for some time when I hit Act 3 because I hate the jungle.

Here is my list right now, I think I need to update a few of them though, I sometimes am too lazy to do it. (Actually I know its missing some, because a couple characters are just plain not listed.)

In Progress:

(Keeping in mind I MP a lot so sometimes character levels don't match the quest they are on at all)

ADeadlyToxin – Poison Nova Necromancer – Level 74 – Act 3 Quest 1 – Hell
Bam_YoureHealed – Healer Paladin – Level 13 – Act 1 Quest 4 - Normal
FeralandFurious – Fury/Feral Rage Druid – Level 56 – Act 5 Quest 1 – Hell (Rushed this one a bit as you can tell by the level)
Fluffy_Bunny – Passive Amazon – Level 27 – Act 3 Quest 5 – Normal
Frozen_Sparks – Frozen Orb/Nova Sorceress – Level 42 – Act 1 Quest 1 – NM
HeWhoFlipsOut – Holy Freeze Zealot – Level 62 – Act 4 Quest 1 – NM – KTA
Lana_Kane – Blizzard Sorceress – Level 90 – Act 5 Quest 5 – Hell
Shock_AndAwe – Charged Bolt/Hydra Sorceress – Level 70 – Act 2 Quest 1 – Hell
SirRiftALot – Rift Paladin – Level 77 – Act 2 Quest 4 – Hell
Static_Shock – Holy Shock Paladin – Level 46 – Act 1 Quest 3 – NM
TheRiftReopens – Kick/Trap Assasin – Level 35 – Act 5 Quest 1 – NM (Rushed this one as well, but its actually a remake, first one died, so eh)
The_Enchantress – Enchant Sorceress – Level 62 – Act 5 Quest 6 – NM
The_Fanatic – Zeal/Fanaticism Paladin – Level 42 – Act 1 Quest 1 – NM
Zapados – Lightning Sorceress – Level 42 – Act 5 Quest 5 - Normal

The act 3 part gets me, too. If you read my intro/first pat thread, I mention how I had set my character aside upon reaching act 3 in nm and then again in act 2 of hell. I probably have over half of my stalled characters in act 3 on varying difficulties.

I also have this problem but don't notice it as much because my goals include completing the grail, so I focus primarily on a single character for weeks/months until they die and pick up another char from there :D

I also have 2 septs in progress... one of which is half (?) done

Start MP. You can finish those boring parts much faster and it's more intresting then playing alone.

When I start a character it's usually for a purpose (run Lower Kurast, Council, etc.) so I am motivated to complete him/her as quickly as possible (or at least bring him/her to the area of the game that will be played). I also play twinked so that probably helps with the motivation.

Yes, I also have UCS - big time. I have probably something like 25 tournament characters a few others stuck somewhere in the game. And I play HC which means that a good number of characters die (about 2/3 of them, if I look at deaths compared to succesful Guardians). Some of my characters are almost 10 years old...

Amateurs! I have over 100 unfinished characters! I'm proud of this, and slowly working towards finishing all of them in one week.

Interesting! In 12 or so years playing I can only think of four characters that I started planning to complete the game and have not yet doing so.

1.09 Blender
1.09 Overlord
1.13 ES/Enchantress
1.13 Avenger

That's it, and, with the possible exception of the Overlord, I plan to complete them at some stage. I've created dozens of characters that were play to the end of Act 1 Normal for fun and the deleted, never intending them to go any further.

Cause I just restarted, I don't have many characters. But, with less than a week of playing I've already planned 2 Septs, so that's probably bad enough.

I'm pretty sure almost any character can technically be considered "unfinished." Honestly, how many people max out every character they play with?

I pretty much do (to the extent my gear/the gear I can trade for allow). I however also have very few characters and they all have some purpose.
