Yo don't have to set the date back. You can just log in. I think it's a bug.

Why do you think the date of your computer would change setting of information stored on blizzard servers?

    Re: Unexpiring characters?

Recently there are many threads about unexpiring - expired characters/acc.

Well, It is true. All you have to do is login into the game, login any charcs as per normal. If it was expired character, it would remove the expired title.

When your character is expired, the name of your character is up for grab.
so example you got a character name Jane, and it got expired. B.net will enable Jane to be re-used. Someone else created a character name Jane. Right now, You wont be able to retrieve your Character name Jane. You will know this when they display a dialouge box > "Player not Found".

As for account, it is the same deal. If someelse recreate that account, you will know when you cannot login with the old password u had, and not recieving mail from asking for password reset through b.net.

As for acc/charcs expired for 2 years. I am not sure. I guess they do a cleanup every new patch. I have an 1.08 acc and the acc was gone.

hmm maybe the mod should sticky this or sth.
lol. and it looks like many people are coming back for d2.

At least it is good to unload expired chars. I tried, and once I put my clock back to normal, the char was expired again. Can one confirm ?

    Re: Unexpiring characters?

Read post #4, nowadays the char does not get deleted when they reach status 'expired' and you could revive them. You don't need to change your system clock for this.

Some years ago the procedure to try and get the char back involved changing the system clock and re-activating the char. If you were lucky the char would be usable again. The reason was that the D2 client showed 'expired' status based on the computer clock (not the server clock). You can test whether this still happens by putting your own system clock 91 days ahead, all chars should show as expired if it is still the same.
