    Normal: No XP loss
Nightmare: 5% of what's needed in total for the next level, being capped at the mimimum for the current level
    Hell: 10%

You will get back half of the XP when retrieving the corpse.

Up to 15 or 16. If you die again then, the current equipment will drop to the ground and everybody can grab it.

Note that if you leave the game, only one corpse will be preserved, the one with the equipment of the highest vendor price (which is not necessarily the better gear). All the rest is gone forever then.

Don't try to recover the corpse if there are too dangerous monsters near it. Dying again will cost XP again which makes it pointless.

i played the game all the way to hell level before i even knew you could recover your corpse. i always thought you had to reboot the game to get it back. i had no idea about only the corpse with highest vendor prices remaining. glad you told me!

Holy fashizzle, can your gear really just pop and drop if you get too many corpses going at once? This is accurate for 1.13 closed bnet?! Thats some scary stuff! I have suicided a dozen times here and there just because I had just leveled... to think that there would actually be other consequences then the exp loss (Which is null and void cuz I just lvled) is scary.

Yes it can. When you're running to recover your corpse you should avoid picking random stuff on the ground (ideally play with the /nopickup enabled).

You won't lose levels from XP loss through dying if you already gained them, although you will prevent leveling if you do it before it happens.

Dying costs 10% xp difference in hell mode, so you won't have to do it more than 10 times anyway :azn:
