Tweets about Player Rezing, No Healer, and DirectX 9

Thought I would post some stuff that was said over on Twitter today. Some good tid bits.

"No corpse runs this time. A friend can resurrect you on the spot or you'll appear back at your last check point."

This was in response to "In D2 and Wow you had to run back to your body. Similar with D3 or can we have Ressurection Scrolls again?"

Not sure how to react to this. I hope there are restriction as to when you can rez someone. If not then boss fights will become trivial.

Later in the day they reconfirmed the point above and that there will be no healer class.

"There are no healer/resurrection classes, if that's what you mean. Any one in your game can bring you back to life."

So that kills all the "5th class could be a healer" theory. (not that it was really a possibility anyways)

    Finally they talked about DirectX.

"We're not using any tech beyond DirectX 9 at this point, though that may change."

Thats not shocking, But it doesn't rule out DirectX 10

May get DX11 with the expansion but certainly not now.

I doubt the 5th class will be straight forward otherwise we would have it by now. Its going to be a weird combo of sorts. They want to get everything tied up for more creative license with the expansion.

    Last checkpoint, got it.

The first two I kind of expected/already knew about.

For the DirectX, my guess is because many people have yet to be convinced that Vista/7 are worth upgrading to from XP (I know I haven't yet). Once Microsoft finally makes a sucessor that people will feel comfortable switching too or if they stop supporting XP, then I can see Blizzard making games built upon later versions of DirectX.

They'll probably support 10 and 11 in D3 though still. We'll have to wait and see.

My guess is that they now say "though that my change" is because of the fast sales of win7. I believe it took over vista months ago and is selling faster than any previous os by m$. So yeah, they have to consider it now.

I'm sorry but the problem with people not switching to 7 is not with the operating system or Microsoft making it. It's with people being ****ing stubborn, foolish or have a computer old enough to run XP like a gocart with square wheels.

There is absolutely no reason not to install Windows 7. Everything I had problems with was fixed by updating drivers/software. The only exception was a really old TV tuner card that I can't find a working 64-bit driver for.

I'm currently still using XP, does that make me stubborn? Nope. Convince me of 1 thing 7 has that I ABSOLUTELY must have that XP doesn't have, and justify the 100$ for it, then I might just upgrade. I also currently don't have any technical issues with XP, any problems I have is because of my own error.

WoW is getting DirectX 11 effects in the next expansion so that's disappointing :(

You become one of many statistics furthering the Window7 movement that encourages software companies (entertainment industry like Blizzard) to look further and further into newer drives.

Effectively, you encourage the fancy effects.

I use Win7 and love it. It came with the laptop, so no extra cost.

One thing that did bug me was needing to use "DosBox" to play Day of the Tentacle. >>

The only real fault of Windows 7 is computability issues with some very old games.

As for the ressing thing, well, as long as it isn't something you can safely do in battle I am fine with it. Corpse run reduction is fine, having death a minor inconvenience is not. You die, you stay dead until it's safe.

Good to hear about the elimination of corpse runs. After 3 or 4 years of this DX10 garbage and DX11 now, I really don't give a crap. DX9 games look and run fine on today's hardware. If they add DX10 textures, then all the better. Otherwise its a nonissue for me.

Windows 7 means I will never play some of my games again.

I can't accept that, so I still use XP.

As to the corpse run elimination, its not a bad thing inherently. I've already accepted they are going "console" with D3. I want things harder, not easier. More involved, not less. I guess I'm stubborn about that too, even though the desperation of game companies to not alienate the casual gamer is an irreversible trend now.

I can think of 3 right now :
    - better memory usage (unlike some people think or claim, this is true)
    - automatic defrag
    - first good 64-bit Windows, XP has a 64-bit version but it's ****ty at best, Vista's a bit better but still not good enough

*edits list while remembering more reasons*
    - Windows 7 boots faster than XP, several sites claimed this and I've tested and confirmed this on lots of different systems
    - probably not useful for you but in a domain environment you can have more than one person logged on without the pc being locked (in XP = one person, no more)

    agreed.

Just cause it's more "console" style doesn't mean the game can't be hard, and involved.

I believe the normal difficulty will be relatively easy, but I think they will make Hell difficulty, just as hard as D2 if not harder. That is as long as your teammates can't rez you at anytime. I would much rather like them to make it, if you die you must wait till combat is over.

Corpse runs don't make the game harder, they just make it more tedious. Removal of TP and spammable potions, on the other hand...

I would hold that thought, as we do not know how the waypoint/checkpoint and the health globes system will turn out. I understand your concern though, just need to pray that them removing two problem from D2 didn't create 2 new problems in D3.

i agree with all of this. corpse runs may not be fun but they are a down side to dying, what will the penalty be in D3?
