Trying something different and want some opinions...

Hi, I am currently building a blessed hammer paladin in single player - maxing hammers, blessed aim (syn) and vigor (syn) however I have decided to try something a wee bit different.....

Instead of using concentration aura I am going max on thorns......reasoning is that I get annoyed when melee monsters are in my face and hitting me and not able to hit them back......so far this build is working.....I am taking a fair amount of damage (but made sure that the build is centred mostly on vitality being very high) but all of the melee just end up killing themselves, I flick on redemption for a brief amount of time and then back to normal......the only concern I have is when entering Hell where they have 50% Physical Immunity.....however even if the monsters take half the amount of damaged returned from maxed thorns it will still be 500%+......

any comments?

For thorns to be activated you need to be hit. Then you need to have the life to handle the hit.

If you want to be able to hit something which is next to you, place a point into Zeal and get a fast weapon on your switch.

Or use smite (which you should already have, it's a prerequisite for holy shield). No need to worry about attack rating as with zeal, because smite always hits the target if it is in range.

Or just practice aiming your hammers. It's not always easy, though.

Word. Thorns isn't probably the best idea. I'd also recommend going with concentration.

Get a Holy Freeze merc if you need crowd control.

Thought I might have to add to concentration....didn't want to but it looks like there is no other way......might keep thorns however and try and get some damage reduction gear and see how it turns out...might have to flash between concentration and thorns.......just don't want to invest any points into melee if I can help it......don't want to have to rely on attk rating or leech if I can help it.......

Concentration is probably a must. If them hitting you is a problem, get a Defiance or Holy Freeze merc to slow them down. Blessed Hammer could usually kill them fast enough before they could deal any real harm so you just need a way to slow them down.
