trying a duel elementalist- HELP!

I am hoping to make a Blizzard/Chain Lightning sorceress. With my gear , and at lvl 78, this is my damages: (+10 to skills from gear)

Blizzard ( 20pts in blizzard, 20pts in glacial spike, 1 in mastery) :: 2467-2606
Glacial Spike (same) :: 436-468

Chain Lightning (20 pts in Chain lightning, 20 pts in mastery) :: 1-2223

Are these damages way to low for hell difficulty? I really like both skills and I have a single tree sorc now, and immunities are irritating; i want to play anywhere i want darn it! :lol: Also:

I figured it out too, if i went with Fireball/Meteor instead of Chain lightning, these are the numbers:

Meteor (20 pts in meteor, 1 in mastery, 20pts fireball) ::6043-6356
Fireball (same) :: 2000-2212

What should I do? I would like to stick with cold/lightning, but tell me honestly if you think its viable. If not, would the fire work?

If you're talking viability in the meaning of killing speed, then Frozen Orb is a much better option. It has good damage and you can aim it. Blizzard is much less usefull in this low damage, especially with only 1 CM

This is correct about one thing: you'll want more than 1 point in cold mastery. I can do Baal runs with a 1900 damage blizzard easily, but with anything less than level 15 cold mastery, I'll just choke.

This is my build:
20 Blizzard
20 Ice Blast
8 Cold Mastery (17 after items)
20 Charged Bolts (~250 damage x 24 bolts = 6000 damage)
20 Lightning (1-3000 damage)
5 Lightning Mastery

It wouldn't hurt if you switched out charged bolts for chain lightning, but 6000 damage can wipe out those annoying cold immunes in the throne room in 1-2 casts.

What difficulty is this... if hell than that 6000 will do nearly nothing. My CB sorcs does 1000+ dmg per bolt = 24k+ dmg, and she still doesn't take them in 1-2 casts, unless you tele to each individual one, and somehow land every bolt on em...

Well, that's the most effective way of dealing with them. Teleport directly on top of them and cast once or twice. Those vampires never saw it coming, even the LE ones. ;)

Okay, but what about running say, the chaos sanctuary? I would be playing in hell, mostly with only myself. can it be done efficiently? Also, i would like chain lightning much more than charged bolts, would you still suggest the skill pts you listed, summoned, except swap cb with cl?

You did the meteorb backwards is why. :evil:

Should have done
prereqs, warmth, teleport, skip static if you want, your taste. No more than 1 in all.
save from (I had like 9 from norm a nmare rush)
max orb
max meteorb
max fire mastery (FIRST, because the synergy from fireball is only added, while fire mastery is Multiplied!)
c. mastery to taste (end-game can have +9-12 plus gear and your charms)
fireball
fire bolt (end game pump)

So your meteor damage is not very good right now cuz you did the synergies backwards. You will have trouble leveling, but eventually it will all even out. I had a freind who did a berserk barb backwards, weapon mastery 1st, it was hell from 40-60, but he got there.

I would say your best bet is to make sure you have orb maxed ASAP, use it or fireball to kill, meteor bosses (if you think it helps) and pump fire mastery ASAP as well. Getting all you skill quests now will ease the pressure some...but then you'll be in Hell difficulty. :cheesy:

Stick with it, eventually he rocks! :yep:

semisonic9; who are you talking to? The point of my thread was to find out about blizzard/ CL or something similar. I didnt want to do the classic meteorb. I appreciate your suggestions, but i havent made a meteor orb sorc, i am waiting to get an ideal build involving cold and lightning. :uhhuh:

Chain lightning is more effective in the chaos sanctuary than in the throne of destruction, so definitely go for it. The reason that I would choose to max lightning rather than lightning mastery is that CL will cost 38 mana per cast vs. 22.5 mana per cast from lightning. Maxing lightning mastery will add about 200-300 more damage to CL, maxing lightning instead will add about 1700 damage to lightning itself. You'll probably find lightning a pretty powerful skill by itself, especially against things that stand in the back. CL will bounce off the frontline monsters and may completely ignore the oblivion knights while you can aim the lightning right at them.

As for the chaos sanctuary, you can waste practically everything in the place with chain lightning and lightning, blanket the paths of the doom knights and balrogs with blizzard and cast to your heart's content. The storm casters aren't exactly the most dangerous things, if they try to get close, they won't even survive a single blizzard shard. Oblivion knights can be sniped with lightning. So I think it can work out pretty well in the end.

Pindleskin is just dead meat for blizzard, so no comment on that.

For the skill layout, it's really up to you specifically, but this would work:

20 Blizzard
20 Ice Bolt/Blast/Glacial Spike (either one)
7 Cold Mastery
20 Lightning
20 Chain Lightning
5 Lightning Mastery

Remaining points can go to either mastery, depending on whether you want to kill act bosses more quickly (cold mastery) or large packs in the CS more quickly (lightning mastery). At -100% enemy cold resistance, cold mastery is at its maximum effectiveness against things with 0% cold resistance, so more points are only useful against things with some resistance.

Edit: obviously, that's not a level 78 build, but the chaos sanctuary is pretty good for experience. :D
