    Try new booze day!

Knowing the world today, there probably is already such a thing as "Try new booze day" but oh well... the other day, me and a couple friends were discussing the fact that we always stick with the same alcoholic beverages, and never try anything new. So it was proposed that we make a little holiday among ourselves where we buy a whole bunch of booze that we have never before tasted. So I asked one of my friends to pick a random month without telling him what it was for. He told me October. Then I asked another friend to pick a random number between 1 and 31. He picked seven. So then it was decided that among us, October seventh would be our "Try new booze day" even though this year on October seventh, our little group of friends wont be together. But a thought has just occured to me. There's no guaranteeing that Oct. 7 will be a weekend, and what with work and school, that's just not practical. So I ask if I should change the permanent date, or make it a movable holiday?

Oh... and what kind of booze should we try?

July 5, provided you are American. Most everyone is off for independence day anyway, and people are always around friends.

Try some nice Scotch if you can afford it.

Scotch is something you have to work at to enjoy. At first it just tastes like burning, but after you drink it regularly for a while you can start to make BS comments about the "finish" and "aroma" and "smokiness."

If you've never had one, go to a nice establishment like a wine bar and order a dry bombay saphire martini with an olive. The gin martini is not loved by all, but it is one of the classics that everyone should try.

I would like to try Ciroc. Vodka made from grapes sounds good, but none of the places around me sell it  .

Maybe it depends on the quality of the Scotch. My first sip of Scotch (real Scotch) was a single malt 12 year, and it was incredibly smooth.

Yeah, my first was also a single malt, and it was ok, but I wasn't particularly wowed by it. Mostly it tasted like alcohol. When I started drinking scotch with a splash of water and a chaser of soda water to clear my taste buds between sips I started to appriciate the flavors more.

...but it still tastes mostly like alcohol.

You're thinking of isoprpyl (rubbing alcohol). This is grain alcohol, but it might literally burn your esophagus...

Besides absinthe, if you're looking for something new, try Ouzo, it's a greek anise based drink. Personally, I hate it.
    But hey, it's something new.

    Did you mean Absinthe?

I love the stuff, especially a good branded absinthe. Sadly, no one I know has ever heard of it. So it would make a good "pick a new booze" candidate.

I actually need to order another bottle... Evidently I dance with the Green Fairy too much. I need a new bottle every month or so.

A few other boozes make excellent shots... sip or slam, your choice. Chambord, Frangelico....

For Try New Booze Day, just go to a cocktail bar and try and get through the entire menu. You will most likely stop within 1/3 of it, and you will be guaranteed to try some new drinks!

Well thats what me and some mates do whenever we want to try something new!

I haven't tried the Un Emile yet. Actually I've been trying to work up the nerve to order some Logan Fils... very spendy stuff. In the meantime, Le Fee is my current supplier, and they always have a bottle at my doorstep within 3 days, and considering I live in Alaska, that's mighty impressive.

Where do you order your Un Emile from? I will have to get some next time. I'm down to just one full bottle of the Le Fee and it won't last long...

well then... I think I'd get a bit sick from that... not to mention I'd probably experience my first hangover.... I've never actually gotten to the point where I've drunk so much that it affected me in any way shape or form the next day... I tried once... apparently I take well to the booze, or I really didn't drink all that much... There's only so much liquid that I can hold at one time.

Still, you've given me a great idea... my brother's friend used to be a bartender, and he has a big recipe book... he'd probably lend it to me....

umm...morg also has a couple of drink mixing guides, as do I. I've never actually used it, as the only drinks i mix are ceasers, screwdrivers, rye/rum/whisky and coke, and fireball coffee. Oh and Arbedark....I like your idea!!!
