Travincal tourney (RFO) interest and discussion thread

I was against unlimited due t to that not being a fair game. If someone did 100 more hours and won, all that tells me he is still in college :)

But if we run the same time and he still wins, it tells me he is more efficient and a better travel runner than me. Sure luck can be involved, but it is a constant variable.

If there is a bonus score for gold find, should it be on a bid basis and only one person per bonus category gets it, but everyone bids on it and that would set the goal high. Like I would bid up to 50 mil, people could chose not to out bid me. I then have to get 50 mil otherwise I lose the bonus points?

Efficiency can rarely be determined with drops in Diablo, especially if we deal with low drop chances like with runes in Travincal. Let's say we limit playing time on 20 hours. Most players can run p3 Travincal with ww barb in 45 seconds, some faster, some slower. That player would be able to complete 1600 Travincal runs in 20 hours of playing. Here are drop probabilities for runes per run done for barb that has 55% hork:

Lo 1:2540
Sur 1:2290
Ber 1:3434
Jah 1:3075
Cham 1:4613

Yet we talk about "only" 1600 runs done. If mentioned player gets winning score (say Jah Ber Sur), it will have very little to do with his efficiency of running, and luck will be major and most deciding factor for his win. Same is true with any possible winner in limited version, luck will be deciding factor for winning. Efficiency plays the roll only if difference between players is huge, and even then luck is most deciding factor to determine the winner (player A does 1600 runs, players B 800 runs, player A is two times more efficient, yet difference is 800 runs between players, possibly enough to make difference in score depending on drops of both players, but only including mathematical expectation).

Just wanted to point out efficiency cannot be determined in limited version at all since luck is most deciding factor by a mile there.

Hi I could be up for this if its a fixed amount of runs. I dont think I am allowed to participate if it requires a trading profile. I am and will always be selffound in SP.

You can put up a trading profile anyway. It doesn't make you obliged to get items from others.

I thought of not needing trade profile to participate so that anyone can participate on this tournament. We won't take items anyway.

Also, it would be like this:

Limited running (20 hours)
Multiple entry possible (even with same character), however you cannot entry again as long as you don't finish 20 hours of running.
Um+ runes to be scored.
1.07 Travincal will be also included, I still need to find appropriate way to score runes for it.
It will be for 14 days total.

So, limited running since most people want that, and multiple entries like on last pindlethon so that those more determined runners have enough space to run.

I thought of RFO starting and end date like this:
Starting: monday 11th at 00:00, end at sunday 24th 24:00 now in august.

With rules stated above. Just saying so that people can prepare before I actually open thread about it.

Whee.. time to start rerolling trav maps to find a shiny one.

Has a determination been made in regards to prizes? More specifically with participants donating some. I ask partly because if that is going to be a thing, then part of the preparation will be going through stashes to see what one might want to donate. Also, I had some thoughts on interesting prize categories that could go to people other than the obvious top 3 or number one and runner up, or what have you.

For example:

Underdog Prize: goes to the highest scoring participant with a visibly poorer-wealth geared character. The prize could be a generic starter kit of decent uniques to get someone of lower wealth going (merc gear, MF items), or something put together after the fact by volunteers to be upgrades for the character that participated.
The Oddball: goes to the participant with the most unexpected character build. Something like this could be voted on by participants. Prize could be anything, from generic Pgems to a more coveted item.
Runeword Bingo: If someone collects in a single set of runs all the runes necessary to complete a HR-using runeword (or just all the HRs necessary since many won't bother picking up lower non-crafting runes), they become eligible for a prize of an appropriate base for said runeword. Perhaps in the case of multiple people doing this, the one whose runeword's HR add up to the highest/lowest score wins, the runeword with the most HRs wins, or the longest runeword in length wins. Alternatively, simply the first person to do so wins, like the game Bingo.
Random Consolation Prize For No Particular Reason: Thanks for playing satchel of Pgems, simply given to a random participant.
Cha got what, chum?: To anyone who finds 2 chams in a single set, they earn our envy, our incredulous slackjawwed "say whaat?"s. And perhaps if anyone's feeling creative, some sort of custom avatar-medal type thing to mark the event.

As for myself, I am able/willing to donate some things. Off the top of my head stuff for the Underdog prize I mentioned, pgems, couple HRs, and some bases. Though my range of bases to offer is somewhat limited.

Currently working of prizes, it's not yet settled. I thought of having prizes which are more of a symbolic meaning than anything else. Donating could work, but then we have certain problems. First is between HC/SC since SC item cannot be used in HC, only vice versa. Also people who will participate and don't have trade profile won't be able to receive any form of prize and they won't be able to donate anything.
