Transitioning from Normal to Nightmare [SP]

How do I do it? I killed Diablo in normal and started a new game with the same character, but all the monsters seem Normal strength and drop Normal-appropriate loot.

Or am I imagining things and there is no NM/Hell in vanilla Diablo?

There is Nightmare and Hell, but only in multiplayer, for levels 20+ and 30+ respectively. However, if you create a Nightmare/Hell game in multiplayer, there is a bug where the next singleplayer game you make will be a Nightmare/Hell game.

Thanks both for the prompt reply! I took my Sorcerer to level 25 in SP, I'm thinking I'll restart on bnet so I can easily run through NM and Hell.

The fun thing is that the increased difficulty occurs on your next single player game, regardless of the clvl of the character.

So you can create a Hell difficulty game with a clvl 1 character if you want. Warrior and Rogue won't be able to hit anything, and Sorc can kill things with his firebolt, but as soon as enemies get in attacking-range you're mincemeat (makes dlvl 3-4+ with skeleton archers impossible, and firebolt damage gets to low to 1-shot things).
