Top 10 songs of 2008

It's the 6 year anniversary of this thread! For those who don't remember, provide a list of your favorite 10 songs that were RELEASED in 2008. (Not just your favorite songs during 2008)

In oh so specific order:
#10 Shut Up And Let Me Go, by The Ting Tings (album: We Started Nothing)
#9 Patient Patient, by The Morning Benders (album: Talking Through Tin Cans)
#8 Seventh Avenue Prophet, by Zox (album: Line In The Sand)
#7 Take Back The City, by Snow Patrol (album: A Hundred Million Suns)
#6 A Thread Cut With A Carving Knife, by Stars (album: Sad Robots EP)
#5 Strength In Numbers, by The Music (album: Strength In Numbers)
#4 Lights & Music, by Cut Copy (album: In Ghost Colours)
#3 Requiem For A Dying Song, by Flogging Molly (album: Float)
#2 Music Is My Hot Hot Sex (Kill The Noise Remix), by CSS

And the best song released in 2008...
#1 A&E (Maps Remix), by Goldfrapp (album: A&E)
My first experience of this song was actually the Maps Instrumental Remix, which got me totally hooked on the beat that builds up throughout the song. Then I heard the full remix version and was blown away. Alison Goldfrapp's voice is so good, and layered into the instrument tracks...wow.

Album of the year
Runners up:
Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns
Had it been released earlier, this might have taken the top spot. In the 2 months I've had it, it has launched Snow Patrol to the top of my frequent listens. Got my girlfriend and my sister hooked on it as well. I feel like Snow Patrol has moved in the opposite direction I was expecting them to go in the wake of their popularity, and that's a very good thing. Don't get me wrong, Run is a great song, but if they had tried to duplicate that success into a whole new album, it would've bombed.
Zox - Line In The Sand
This one came out of absolutely nowhere. Zox is a local Providence band I was introduced to while at RISD through a friend of one of the members. They put on a good live show, and I saw them twice while at RISD. When the new album came out I stumbled across it by accident and gave it a download. Maybe I wasn't listening hard enough at their live shows, because this effort had so much more amazingness packed into it than I ever would have expected.

And the best album released in 2008...
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
Everything about this album makes me want to move around. This year my taste for electronic music skyrocketed, and this album was definitely one of the primary reasons. It's nonstop fun from track 1 to track 15. A huge leap forward from their 2004 album.

Hmm, I'm getting old. I don't know even one of them when just looking at the titles. Probably because I tuned in a news radio channel in my car (which only has a cassette recorder apart from that BTW :whistling:) with absolutely no music, except for a few 10 second jingles and sometimes a bit elevator music inbetween. What's more important, they don't have these stupid games, news about silly issues or any other kind of babble of hearers with just half a brain. My tolerance for any kind of shallow entertainment is particularly low in the morning and when sitting in the train, I expect everybody in there to shut up and to switch off their goddamn mobiles.

Hmmm...I haven't really heard any new music this year, but I will try:

10: Rock N Roll Train - AC/DC
9: IRS - Guns N Roses
8: Inside the Fire - Disturbed
7: Street of Dreams - Guns N Roses
6: Torn - Disturbed
5: Indestructible - Disturbed
4: Catcher in the Rye - GnR
3: The Night - Disturbed
2: Two Weeks - All That Remains
1: There Was a Time - GnR

As you can see, I barely listen to any new music at all. I must admit that a couple new songs would have made the cut, but they were from last year.

Album of the year : Indestructible. Amazing to listen to, especially while driving nowhere.

I wanted to amend this a little. I listened through 808s and Heartbreak a little more closely today and "Robocop" hit me like a brick and I'm pretty certain it's the best track of the year.

Tracks:
1. Kanye West - Robocop
2. Bon Iver - For Emma
3. Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
4. David Byrne and Brian Eno - Strange Overtones
5. Sigur Rós - Inní mér syngur vitleysingur
