12. When something's wrong with your home PC, dump it on an I.T. person's chair with no name, no phone number and no description of the problem. We love a puzzle.
Put up a sign that reads "Unidentified computers will be sold as soon as possible". That'll take care of atleast that problem, one way or the other.

Fallen, just some words of encouragement for your choice of IT as a professional endeavour: It only gets worse.

FYI, The technical term is MEGO - "My Eyes Glazeth Over". And while I agree that Education Professionals can seem like a contradiction in terms (the welfare-to-work types I supported in Philadelphia were more on-the-ball), you'll find that stupid users are an unavoidable constant.
im going for CIS in college, but as i am a tech in our school now, and i am going for CIS (i love to program :D every1 in my programming and web page classes hate me cuz i can script whole assignments in less than 10 mins, while it takes them 90 mins), but i am also very good with computer hardware... even if i dont get a job as IT personnel in the future, i am surely ganna be helping my friends with computer problems, and those are not always fun.

The only thing that sucks about being a good programmer/scripter is that once i am done, i am dragged all over the damn classroom by people who are asking me what to do... and i get a little frusterated when i see xhtml and javascript code like this...

Code:
<a href>[url]http://www.edgar.k12.wi.us[/url] onclick=somefunctionwithoutparameters(parameter) onmouseover=anotherfunctionwithoutparameters(parameter, parameter)><img src="somepic.jpg />Click here</a>
and so on... it just gets annoying, and u wonder what people are doing while we go over this stuff... i mean, we have been doing web pages for almost 7 weeks, i would hope they know how to do a link and stuff... yeesh! [/rant]

Sadly (but funnily) those things wouldn't have been written down if they hadn't happened at one point in time or more.

Even more sadly though, we are not allowed to do much of anything to our computers here. We are not even allowed to change out a keyboard or mouse. We are only allowed to turn our machines on & off, and put in CD's as needed to the floppy.

Keep in mind that as a generic coder/scripter you have a very good chance of being replaced by Baghwan Rajneesh at the Lahore (Pakistan) center. Baghwan speak-a-da-english, and he's more eddicated than you are - plus he's not eating very well and would like to remedy that situation for $.10 versus your $1.00. An awful lot of American CEO's think that's just peachy, even though these things don't work out very often.

I'd suggest that you get yourself an angle; it doesn't matter what. Security is the rage right now, so I'm trying to polish that apple (networking having been another), but I'm sure health care automation or other specializations would work. Plus, learning Linux/UNIX or some older 'big iron' languages will keep food on your table.

yea... and we were talking about it at lunch, and wisconsin has a major shortage of technology teachers... i had thought about this b4, and i dont think it would be a bad idea, just the grading papers and stuff is what gets me... then again, a tech class shouldnt have that many papers to grade. i was just wondering what would be the "classification" i guess u could say for teaching programming and web paging and stuff... cuz if i could do that, it wouldnt be too bad, cept for the afforementioned errors in code... but hopefully i have some1 like me in the class that can do the stuff for me, hehe

but as you were saying about being replaced, that is the only thing i would be worried about... granted, i have a little time to think it over about becoming a teacher or not, but as of right now, i would still like to major in CIS...

is there any1 here who is a technology teacher that can tell me what they do during a typical school day, and if they have any extra responsibilities, etc. i wouldnt mind input on a CIS major too, just to compare...

if any1 can help, i would appreciate it...
