Thorns Question

So is thorns damage considered magic damage or physical?

A level 20 thorns does 101% damage returned...in what fashion?

I've been using it in PvP and found it to be pretty good vs meele...any thoughts?

Thx

no thorns is not that usefull, just like ironmaiden, throns is nefed in pvp and is affected on how much dr u wear and how much dr the opposition wears. So if u have like 30% dr and got hit, the amount of dmg, u take is naturally reduced by 30% as opposed to zero this means that the dmg after going through pvp penaulties, are extremely low.

So, lets say they hit me with 300 damage (physical). My DR is 50% so i take 150. Thorns (L 20, 101%)then applies, and delivers 151 to them. Their DR then takes away 50%, so they in the end take 76? That doesn't seem that useless to me...If I have 3k life, in order to kill me with all physical they would take 1515 (after DR). Or is the total damage returned somehow nerfed further? Say 1515 x 0.17 = 257 damage.

THAT would be useless...considering I could wear fort or nigma or coh as opposed to bramble.

There is the extra poison damage (for my venom), but I wonder if its worth it just for that if the thorns does suck.

Any more thoughts?

Thorns is pretty useless. Even if they take 1500 damage returned to them, that's not gonna kill them, not even with your own damage added on top of it.

The best way to abuse the thorns on Bramble is to use a shadow master. When you hit summons, something is removed from the equation, might be the PvP penalty or the Thorns nerfage. This is the only reason Summon necromancer's exist in PvP to some level.

Minions don't suffer the same pvp penalty hence why it's effective to use them as the target.

IM + Gumby
Thorns/Spirit + Bear

Both works

Getting 1500 free damage sounds pretty good...since my WWSin is not going to just be sitting there knitting or something....I'm of course using a master as well, along with Trang gloves to boost the venom.

Is it actually 1500 or 17% of 1500? Cause 1/6th of 1500 would suck...anyone know for sure?

The Thorns damage goes through the pvp penalty (1/6) twice as well as any DR% on both parties, meaning end damage is tiny.

if you can do 76 dmg as he calculated its pretty nice.. U do the dmg without moving a finger, thats sweet!

yeah ofc. :) But still. It's better than nothing. But the question is if you really can afford 20 skillspoints in it :\ maybe 5 or 10?

Okay, There are two chars, both have 50% DR. Char [a] has level 20 Thorns (1010% damage return).

Char hits char [a] for 1000 damage (all physical), minus pvp penalty and 50% DR this becomes 83.33 damage.

Now Thorns returns this damage at 1/10th the listed value to char , so 1010% becomes 101%, which equals 167.5 damage.

Then the 167.5 damage minus pvp penalty and 50% DR this becomes 13.95 damage, the final damage returned.

So char [a] suffered 83.33 damage and char suffered 13.95 damage.

As you can see you would have to have roughly 6 times the life of the other char attacking you to equal the damage caused to you, with the damage returned.

yes, buts its just a backup, not a killer. It's just a secondary skill. U can still use some of the main pvp stuff and just have thorns as an extra passive attack. It IS passive right?

Well yes that is true, but unless your char is poison based, there are far better armours to use in pvp. It is lacking DR/skills/resists/str/fcr etc. of a lot of the other pvp armours people use. I'm not saying 'Bramble' or Thorns are bad in pvp just don't expect fantastic results just because it says 1000%+ damage returned.

naah okay, you are kinda right.. When u see the 1000%+ damage returned its awesome :) A smiter hits you for 1k and gets a 10k right back at him :) a shame it doesn't work that way :D
